Homework Can be expected regularly. If time allows, students will be able to start homework in class. Late work is accepted. Homework counts for a small portion of their formative grade and is graded based on completion. � All necessary work must be shown to receive full credit on an assignment.

Homework (continued) It is expected that students correct their homework the next day in class. All homework must be completed in each chapter before students can retake a chapter summative assessment.

Grade Weighting We have set high goals as a district and as a building. Our grading system varies between grade levels. 8 th grade � Formative assessment (worth 20% of student’s grade) Students are still in the learning stage Would include assignments such as homework, class work, warm ups, exit slips. � Summative assessment (worth 80% of student’s grade) Students should be at a mastery level

Test Retakes Your student may re-take summative assessments. � Quiz, test, or project In order to complete a retake, your student must: � Complete all homework in said chapter � Test corrections � Reflection form � Extra practice

What to do when your child is absent Don’t worry! You and your student can go to my website where it is updated daily. It is important for your child to check my website or stay after school to catch up on missed material as math skills build upon one another making it easy to fall behind quickly.

STUDENT-LED CONFERENCES Will be taking place again this year. � October 19 th – October 21 st. Everyone is welcome! Students will be setting goals in each class and collecting their work to show to parents. Teachers are available to conference with when/if necessary.

MAP Testing It starts tomorrow! The RBMS website will have more detailed information about this test that we will administer 3 times this year. We want to see student growth over time and this is one way that we measure this in students.
