What is the Community Project? “The community project focuses on community and service, encouraging students to explore their right and responsibility to implement service as action in the community. As a consolidation of learning, the community project engages students in a sustained, indepth inquiry leading to service as action in the community. ” – MYP: From Principles to Practice
What do I need for the Community Project? ▪ One composition notebook or Google Drive = Process Journal
The Basics ▪ A student chosen and driven service project ▪ Performed by all year 3 MYP students (8 th grade) ▪ PUPS teacher’s role is to simply supervise ▪ Mrs. Rhymes is the project coordinator
Requirements ▪ Students will work on the project for approximately 15 hours ▪ Students may work individually, in pairs, or in groups of three – You may only work with students in your PUPS period ▪ Students will practice independent learning through research, planning, development and completion of the project ▪ Students will attend a minimum of three meetings during PUPS with their supervisors ▪ Students will present and report about their service project
Graded Checkpoints ▪ Science – Proposal for Action ▪ US History – Annotated Bibliography ▪ Math – Analysis of Bivariate Data ▪ Language & Literature – Process Journal/Reflection

Community Project Expectations ▪ You will actively strive to become a better global citizen ▪ When in PUPS, you come in prepared to work on your project ▪ You use your time wisely – DO NOT PROCRASTINATE! ▪ You reflect on your use of the IB learner profile attributes and approaches to learning skills ▪ You project will take place OFF CAMPUS!
