Types of classes @ Falcon Cove General Education Advanced Gifted Cambridge Specialized Varying Exceptionalities (SVE)
Teaming at the Cove Math, Science, Social Studies and Language Arts Reading Class is based on the Broward Schools Placement Reading Chart (FSA Level 1 or 2, BAS scores, and teacher recommendations) General Education Classes, Advanced, Cambridge or Gifted classes are within one team of teachers. ESLS Support Facilitator is assigned primarily to one team.
Advanced Team High level Standardized Test Scores (Level 4 or 5) Placement is based on scores and teacher recommendation from Elementary School. Most students participate in all advanced classes. Rigorous and faster paced curriculum/exams Recommended for the organized and independent learners.
Specialized Varying Exceptionalities class (SVE) These students meet exemption criteria from taking State and District testing and instead participate in the Florida Standards Alternate Assessment (FSAA) Intensive / Individualized Instruction Modified Academic Curriculum Instruction in the areas: Social Skills Pragmatics Behavior Life Skills Lower teacher to student ratio
General Education Classes ESE Support Facilitator Works with team of Teachers § Services based on student needs and IEP. § Monitors student progress § Offers organizational assistance § Writes Annual IEPs Informal Testing § IEP Implementation § Provides Support with: – Administration – Guidance – Teachers – Paraprofessionals – Service Providers – Parents – Students
The General Education teacher along with ESLS Support … Work as a team to best meet all student needs. Implement Accommodations Share ideas and teaching strategies. Collaborate with each other on students and lessons. Increase level of student achievement. Focus on Differentiating Instruction
Accommodations Allowable accommodations/supplemental aids do not change the standards, instructional level or content. They provide the student with equal access. These are provided within the general education setting. Accommodations change how the student learns the material
Modifications change what the student is taught or expected to learn. Students receiving modifications participate in the statewide Florida Standards Alternative Assessment (FSAA).
Welcome Letter Your child’s Support Facilitator will be assigned during pre-planning week. A letter will be sent home during the first week of school with detailed information.
Learning Lab The learning lab is available each morning at 8: 55 a. m. once the school gates are open for students. Students can come to finish homework assignments, get help on specific HW questions or review for an upcoming quiz or test. Due to limited space the Lab is not a replacement and can not be used for the sole purpose of morning care.
“Tips” Weekly email A weekly email is sent to most parents as a “frontloading” tool to share information about upcoming quizzes, tests, projects or assignments. This is based on the IEP. The email will provide effective communication between home and school and offer organization support.

Next week we will finish Chapter 11 and take our chapter 11 test on March 17. Chapter 11 workbook pages are also due March 17. Students need to turn in their Thurgood Marshall biography assignment.

Student Schedule for ‘ 20 -’ 21 school year. 4 classes per day. A/B block scheduling. Classes last all year. Classes are approximately 85 -90 minutes. Most 6 th grade classes are in the portables Breakfast - 8: 25 a. m. – 8: 55 a. m. Lunch - 30 minutes during Period 2/6. Times TBA

Breakfast and Lunch Breakfast- All students are entitled to a free breakfast 8: 45 a. m. – 9: 15 a. m. Lunch- during Period 2 § 30 Minute Lunch § Student are not required to sit at assigned tables.
Transportation Bus Transportation Bus number is mailed to your home address about one week before school starts. Parent Transportation The drop-off and pick-up area is located off of Vista Park Road behind Cypress Bay High.
Medical Needs Nurse Tech is in the Admin office. Medication must be prescribed by a Doctor. Authorization for Medication Form must be current if medication must be given on a schedule, as needed or a field trip. Authorization for Medication Form is good for 1 Year.
