Who is Mrs. Goff? • • • Teaching is my passion. I have a BA in Psychology, a Masters in Family Studies and a Post-Baccalaureate teaching certification. This is my 5 th year at Sears: • Two years as an Instructional Assistant • Third year in 5 th Grade I’m a community member, have 4 children (two in college, two at New Trier)

Enrichment Period • M, T, W, F – 11: 18 -11: 48 • Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) model which includes grade-level Response To Intervention (RTI) • The focus of RTI is based upon individual needs and is met via direct instruction, reinforcement, extension of skills in all academic areas • Students work individually, in small groups or as a class
Homework • Assignment notebooks must be utilized • On average: 60 min/night and 20 min independent reading (5 days/week) • There will be daily homework consistently in Math and Reading • Often there will be homework on the weekend • Individual goal and class goal of having homework completed
Homework Policy Students who do not hand in homework on time will be sent to homework club (M, W, F) Homework club at recess in room 207 Late homework: 1 st day -10%, 2 nd day -20% 3 rd day -30%. If not in by end of unit = 0% Students will receive a missing homework sheet that will require a parent signature

Math Concepts Covered • • • Whole Numbers/Place Value Multiplication / Division Fractions Decimals Angles Qualities of a Triangle Geometry- Three Dimensional Shapes Volume Surface Area
Math Class Procedures • • Pre-Test for each chapter (goal setting) Family letter for each new chapter of study Class is run as whole group instruction and centers Centers allow for enrichment/review of concepts Homework is nightly (not graded, but recorded) Test-alert given week prior (emailed home) Papers will come home on Fridays Math Center run by Mrs. Quigley (before, after and lunch with teachers pass)
Science Concepts Covered • Earth and Sun – Field Trip Adler Planetarium • Living Systems / Health Museum • Mixtures and Solution
Science Class Procedures • Inquiry based through experiments • Grade based on class participation, notebook and investigation open book assessment • Generally no homework – Work done in class, so missing is hard to make up. • A letter will go home at the start of each new unit • Papers go home for signature at the end of an investigation
