Math Fact Quizzes Math facts will be checked each Friday. The students are now tested on accuracy rather than speed but are progressing beyond fingers and pictures.

Math Strategies Math strategies are a developmental progression through thinking processes. In laying the foundation of concepts, your child’s ability to explain is more important than his/her ability to solve. We present a variety of strategies to find the just-right strategy for each student. Our goal - explanation before computation.

Grading Guidelines Math: 3 ½ major, 6 dailies Science: 2 major, 4 dailies Reading: 2 major, 3 dailies Writing: 2 major, 3 dailies Social Studies: 2 major, 4 dailies
K-5 Elementary campuses will utilize the Home Access Center (HAC) for communicating behavior learning targets (BLTs) for your child(ren). Students will receive an overall proficiency level for their progress in 4 competencies: Competency 1 2 3 4 Demonstrate Respect for Others Demonstrate Self Control Demonstrate Responsibility Demonstrate Readiness to Learn Under each competency there are some sub headings of specific target behaviors students will be expected to master. The four (4) competencies will be rated using three (3)levels of proficiency: Level 3 - Proficient Level 2 - Approaching Level 1 - Needs Support

Policy Regarding Tardies ● Students entering after 8: 40 are considered tardy. ● No breakfast served after 8: 25 a. m. ● Rise and Shine begins at 8: 30. ● Students with perfect attendance, no tardies, and no early dismissals will be rewarded with a perfect attendance reward.

TISD Attendance Policies Excused absences include: • Personal illness (with Doctor’s or parent note) • Serious illness or death in the immediate family • Medical or dental appointments (with a Doctor’s note) • Weather/Road conditions that make travel dangerous • Extenuating circumstances approved by the Principal Please submit a written note excusing the absence within THREE (3) days of the absence! Absences for reasons other than those listed above will be considered Unexcused.
Transportation Changes ● All changes must be communicated by the parent to the front office: ○ Through a written request sent to school with the student and turned in before 3: 00 p. m. ○ Through fax request if received by front office by 3: 00 p. m. ● Emails or calls to the teacher will NOT be accepted as official transportation changes.
Lunch Visitors Due to Increased Enrollment (800+) Space Limitations: Odd Dates: K, 2 nd, 5 th Even Dates: 1 st, 4 th, 3 rd Exception: Birthdays Lunch Birthday Treats: Must be individually wrapped, nut free, and store bought *Ice Cream purchased from the student’s lunch account is an option.
Homework ● Spelling (Word Study) ○ One phonics rule per week, test on Fridays ○ Students will be given a list of words that fit the pattern for the week. ○ Students need to practice words at home during the week but nothing will be turned in for homework. ● Weekly math fact quizzes will begin in two weeks (Fridays) ● Regular Reading and Math homework will be given in the second semester.
