SPELLING Scheduled spelling homework for the week: Monday – write 5 sentences using 2 spelling words in each sentence and the sentence should contain 8 -10 words Tuesday – 2 color spell the words…write the words in one color and trace over in a different color Wednesday – crazy write the spelling words - this will change to write the words in cursive after we review/learn cursive Thursday – practice spelling test given at home by parents (say the words and have your child write them, check over for spelling—practice those missed) Friday-spelling test Phonograms will be review in class and a list of weekly phonograms will be with spelling words in homework binders **There is also a Smart Phone app to learn the phonograms!!!! $3. 99

ACCELERATED READER (AR) Content and length of books are just as important as book color. Students need to test on fiction and nonfiction books. Students are expected to maintain their percent correct of 85%- 90%. Point goals will be set – (try to achieve goal each quarter)—information will go in homework folder Home Connect – information coming home shortly-under library tab on school website

This is helpful for helping your child develop a booklist of books they would like to read. READING Journeys, Literature Studies, Read Aloud books, Leveled Readers Vocabulary development Develops comprehension skills, making connections, compare and contrast, summarizing, etc. Students are encouraged to refer back to the story to look for the answers on the reading test. They may use the book.

MATH Students have one math book that travels between school and home most evenings, book is available on my website. Math problems are copied from the book onto homework paper-students must show work and box the answer. Students need to use the homework paper to maintain neatness. Arizona State Standards are implemented throughout the year. Multiplication (15 weeks) Fractions (7 weeks) Geometry and Measurement (5 weeks) Number Sense (8 weeks)

SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES Aligned to state standards which were new in 2019 Class science fair project will be in January Students are assigned an individual science and social studies book to use in class STEM activities each quarter

INTRO TO BEHAVIOR PLAN This year we will use a color clip chart to monitor our behavior and classroom choices. Your child will use a clip on the class rainbow chart that they will physically move up or down depending on their choices. Please keep in mind that your child will not move their clip every day. In order to move up, students must go above and beyond in their behavior choices.

RULES Follow directions the first time. Stay on task. Be kind to others. Listen when others are talking. Raise your hand to speak.

Discipline Plan Red Outstanding! Students who reach this level will be rewarded with $4 Cool Cash at the end of the day! They will be praised and rewarded for their outstanding choices and helpful attitude. Orange Great Choice! Students who are at orange have moved up two levels from the start point. They are on their way to RED. Students will be rewarded with $2 Cool Cash. Yellow Good Choice! Students who make positive choices will be recognized as they move up their chart. Students will be rewarded with $1 Cool Cash. Green Ready to Learn! Everyone starts the day “Ready to Learn. ” Students can “clip up” or “clip down” throughout the day depending on their behavior choices. If they are still at this level they had a wonderful day and will receive $1 Cool Cash. Blue Slow Down! Students who receive a warning will move to blue. This serves as a reminder to students to think about the choices they make. They will not receive Cool Cash if on blue at the end of the day. Purple Think About It! Students who move to purple have continued to make poor choices and will be given consequences for these choices. No Cool Cash awarded and students will fill out the TIME AWAY slip. Gray Students who move to gray will miss recess in its entirety. Parents will be notified by email or I Need to Assess phone calls regarding the choices that were made. If several poor choices are made the My Choices! parents and teacher will conference to assist the student. No Cool Cash awarded and students will fill out the TIME AWAY slip.

Students will receive 1 Cool Cash dollar if they stay at green or yellow on their clip chart. If your child clips up to red they will receive $4 Cool Cash and $2 for orange. If your child clips down below green they will receive zero Cool Cash dollars. Students can also receive one dollar per day if they have the following completed: a parent signature on their behavior chart and all homework returned completed neat and accurately. Therefore, students can receive up to $5 Cool Cash each day. Students can go to the classroom store or Cool Cash list of incentives on Fridays to purchase items with their Cool Cash. Students will keep their accumulated Cool Cash in the zip pocket inside their homework folder. In addition to Cool Cash, your child will receive praise, recognition, kind words, stickers, special classroom incentives, and additional Cool Cash.

Homework when returning to the school building Parents check homework for completion and accuracy and then sign off on the agenda at the bottom. Only accept their best! Please do not sign agenda ahead of time Homework includes a minimum of 20 -30 minutes of AR reading per night. Homework is checked daily and is randomly graded, so it is important that parents review their child’s work for accuracy. Read your AR books in the car on the way to sports/activities if time is an issue.

HOMEWORK WHEN RETURNING TO THE SCHOOL BUILDING Agendas with homework will be filled out each day Nightly homework will include: * The spelling assignment for that evening * Reading for 20 -30 minutes * 13 -15 math problems (usually #s 2 -30 even) * Parent signature on the agenda

WEEKLY PAPERS/GRADES WHEN RETURNING TO THE SCHOOL BUILDING Student papers are sent home on Fridays. Please review graded papers and discuss them with your child Please clean out backpacks during the weekend. Please allow 1 week for graded papers to be returned. Progress Reports & Report cards are available on Infinite Campus. You can check your students grades online anytime and receive notifications!

ABSENCES Please try to schedule all appointments and vacations outside of school hours. Tuesdays and Fridays are test days and it is important for your child to be present. Important missed assignments will be given to your child when absent.

COMMUNICATIONS Grade level monthly newsletters will be emailed each month to the class at the beginning of the month. • AZ Tax credit money needs to be paid through Infinite Campus. You can donate up to $400 per family. • Please pay $ for field trips prior to September 1 st on Infinite Campus. Fees will be set up by the office (if applicable when school resumes).
