Hello! Hello, hello! It’s a brand new year. Filled with fun and learning, Nothing to fear. Sit back and listen, Lend me an ear, I’m your teacher for the rest of this year!

I am Mrs. W. I have four children, a granddaugher and I love to travel.

All about Language Arts GA Milestones—replacing former CRCT— 1 test this year for ELA Reading and Vocabulary (53%); Writing and Language (47%) ELA GSE standards and elements: Grammar Writing Listening Speaking ELA Interactive Notebooks —teacher directed/student created study guides Grammar—textbook, Daily Language Review, projects Writing—persuasive, expository genres, narrative; journals (GSE), spelling tests Listening and Speaking—read novels in pairs and to teacher, read essays orally, class discussions, project presentations Computer lab—Moby Max, IXL for ELA Chrome Books—used weekly for ELA lessons Benchmark Test—the end of each nine weeks

Example Are you smarter than an ELA 6 th grader? Identify the pronoun and the antecedent in each sentence. When the dogs go wild, (they, he or she) always dig up the front yard. When drivers are texting, (he or she, they) are more likely to speed. The jury announced (its, his, her) verdict. In this class, Julie always performs at (his, her, their) fitness level.

Attendance Is Vital Learning that is lost because of absences can never be adequately replaced. If absent more than 15 days, a student may not be promoted. After 7: 50 the student is tardy. Sixth grade goes to breakfast BEFORE 7: 45.

What happens when I am absent? Work must be made up in 3 days. This work can be found in the “absent” folder on the bookshelf.

Homework Usually given 2 -3 per week.
