TEACHER MENTORING PROGRAM WORKSHOP Principals’ , Teachers’ Mentors and Mentee Teachers’ Roles & Responsibilities Chief Magaria Tellei, DCIMD November 01, 2019
Purpose of the Presentation • Share Major Roles and Responsibilities of Principals, Mentor Teachers and Teacher Mentees in the Mentoring Program
• Select a Mentor Teacher who is exemplar, experienced & competent who can guide teacher development • Attend Mentor Program Training or Workshop
• Select Teacher Mentee to be Guided by Teacher Mentor • Provide opportunity for Mentor Teacher and Teacher Mentee to Meet and Discuss Individual Goals for the Program
1 • Schedule of Meetings, Classroom Observations and Portfolio Review Take Place ASAP 2 • The Schedule includes Principal, Mentor Teacher & Teacher Mentee
• Provide Meeting Time for Mentor Teacher and Teacher Mentee • Scheduled Meetings and Observations Take Place Accordingly
• Provide Time for Mentor Teacher To Complete Final Evaluation of Teacher Mentee • Serve as an Evaluator of the Teacher Mentee, Including Evaluating the Portfolio for Evidence of Accomplishment
Finally, Sign Teacher Mentee’s Portfolio to RECOGNIZE and ACKNOWLEDGE His/Her Exit From the Mentor Program
Mentor Teacher Roles • Guide development of the new teacher • Attend Mentor Teacher Training to learn procedures of the program. • Guide and support Teacher Mentee throughout the duration of the program • Meet Mentee Teacher to discuss individual goals for training. • Complete the final evaluation of Teacher Mentee, including evaluation of the portfolio and evaluation on the program process. • Sign Teacher Mentee’s Portfolio to recognize and acknowledge his/her ability to exit from the Mentor Program.
Teacher Mentee Roles Meet with Mentor Teacher: • for an explanation of the program and its expectations • to discuss the competencies of an effective teacher, • to evaluate own strengths and weaknesses among the competencies. • to select three or four of the competencies which represent areas in which they can build competency.
Teacher Mentee Roles • Observe Mentor Teacher in his/her classroom. • Observed by Mentor Teacher, Principal and Resource Team Members, and jointly meet to discuss results of the observation for improvement. • Document all activities that is required of him/her.
