We will also: talk about art, read about art, think about art, reflect on art, look at art, smile about art… I believe that every person is an artist in his or her own unique way. It’s not about having a “natural” talent. It’s about your experiences and explorations throughout the process. You will do well in this class if you put in the effort and do your best! Classroom Rules Class rules help make the art room a positive and safe environment

Classroom Rules Class rules help make the art room a positive and safe environment for everyone to learn. These rules are based on safety, respect, and responsibility. You are expected to follow the class rules at ALL times and behave in a responsible manner. You are at school to learn, not to play.

Classroom Rules: Safety I will use art supplies safely and properly. I will stay

Classroom Rules: Safety I will use art supplies safely and properly. I will stay in my seat unless given permission to get up. I will walk carefully around the art room and keep my hands to myself. (No running or rough-housing) You may not throw any items in the classroom - no exceptions

Classroom Rules: Respect I will be kind and respectful to everyone and everything. This

This includes: Mrs. Jones, yourself, each other, the furniture in the room, the art materials we work with and anything/one you may be discussing During class discussions, I will give my full attention to the person who is speaking. During work time, I will talk quietly and use appropriate language. You may not go into the storage area or behind Mrs. Jones’ desk

Things you will need: (write this in your passport) The following items are required to be brought in by Friday, Sept. 9 th. A 1 -inch binder (this will stay in the art room) $3 for a Sketchbook (provided by me at time of payment) 1 box of tissues A Positive Attitude- you CAN do it! You must have a sketchbook in this class in order to complete assignments. If you are unable to bring in this money, you must provide a note from a parent or guardian explaining why.

Classroom Procedures Come in quietly and Read the Overhead Warm-up: Begin working immediately on your warm-up. This is a SILENT time. At the signal, give Mrs. Jones your full attention During studio time, work hard and speak softly (98% work, 2% conversation) When told to cleanup, STOP working and begin cleanup. After cleanup, return to your seat and sit quietly. Stay seated until I dismiss you. (Note: I dismiss you, not the bell) PLEASE push in your chairs before you leave.

Beginning of Class: Warm Ups Every day there will be directions posted for you on the projector screen. It is your responsibility to get started as soon as you come into the class. On Mondays it will have your sketchbook assignment, Tues/Thursday or Wed/Fri it will have a warm up posted for you to complete. This is always a SILENT TIME. This means no talking or making other noises. No questions or requests to go to the bathroom at this time.

Clean Up Whatever materials you use during class are your responsibility to put back.

Clean Up Whatever materials you use during class are your responsibility to put back. When it is time to leave class, the area that you sit at must be as clean as when you came into class. You will not be dismissed until your area is clean. Every class we will rotate helping tables. When it is your tables’ turn, you will be responsible for passing out necessary materials for studio time and picking up all “organized” materials at the end of class.

Art Binders Visual Guide- Art Research- Every project will have new vocabulary, information and

Art Binders Visual Guide- Art Research- Every project will have new vocabulary, information and preliminary sketches that will need to be kept in a binder. You are responsible for recording notes for each project, defining art terms, and creating sketches as needed. Your binder will be collected at the completion of each project and you will be given a grade for the accuracy and thoroughness of your research.

Sketchbooks Artists use sketchbooks as a tool for thinking through their creative process or

Sketchbooks Artists use sketchbooks as a tool for thinking through their creative process or to get their creative juices flowing! Every Monday will be sketchbook day. Sketchbook assignments will be due at the beginning of class the following Monday. You need to do your best! Include all the details- fill the page, add a background add color. Some weeks the drawing will be your choice based on a prompt, other weeks there will be a specific image for you to draw. Computer use for finding images will vary, using imagination and creativity is essential in art. This drawing should take all of class on Monday.

Late Work Any assignments that are not turned in on time will have points

Late Work Any assignments that are not turned in on time will have points taken off. Within 1 week of due date: -10 points After 1 week: -20 points Any work not turned by the end of the 9 weeks will be recorded as a 0 and can no longer be made up for a grade.

This is a PRIVILEGE- I do not allow this in the classroom Leaving the classroom is a PRIVILEGE- If you need to leave the class you must ask permission, sign out and have Ms. Jones sign your passport. If you abuse this privilege you will loose it. No Restroom Passes will be given the first 15 minutes or the last 15 minutes of class. (This should be done during transition) You will not be permitted to leave the class for water.
