What is ALL? ALL is a class that is designed to help you become a skilled reader, writer, and communicator. We will be focusing on reading non-fiction texts, analyzing texts for purpose, audience, and literary elements, and developing academic vocabulary. In addition, three important standards that we will be focusing on are: Citing specific textual evidence to support analysis of sources and explaining how they support a claim or idea Comparing and contrasting multiple texts with the same topic Using the analysis of texts, graphics, and data in a written piece.

Class time You will have a warm-up to complete at the beginning of class. When you come in to our classroom, take out a pen or pencil and get started right away! Most warm-ups are less than 5 minutes long and you must write during the entire five minutes. Sometimes I will call them a brain stretch or a rev up as well Every week we will have a list of vocabulary words that you will be quizzed on. Quizzes take place on the Monday of the following week. It is important that you complete your work and study for these quizzes. In order to develop our skills, we will be working individually, in pairs, groups, and sometimes as a whole class. It is important that you cooperate and work well with your peers in this class. If you have a question, comment, or need to use the restroom, please raise your hand! It is important that we are respectful of each other in order to succeed. Next class, YOU will get to meet with your peers and create our class rules and agree upon them. My guidelines for our classroom is that we must all be respectful of others and responsible for ourselves.
