INSTRODUCTION TO STRING LESSONS • String lessons are a pull out lesson. This is where the student will be pulled out of instructional/classroom time for 30 minutes, once every 6 days. This should not be a major disruption to the instruction time the student would be missing once a cycle. For the entire school year ( 188 days), I will see you child a total of 12 hours. I will work with your child’s teacher if there is a concern with missed work/instruction.

LESSON EXPECTATIONS • STUDENT HAS ALL MATERIALS FOR LESSONS: INSTRUMENT, BOW, ROSIN, PENCIL, AND LESSON BOOK – “ALL FOR STRINGS BOOK 1”. • STUDENT FOLLOWS DIRECTIONS /INSTRUCTIONS/ALL SCHOOL RULES APPLY. • SHOWS GOOD BEHAVIOR/EFFORT. • TAKES CARE OF INSTRUMENT/ DOES NOT PLAY INSTRUMENTS THAT DO NOT BELONG TO THEM. • STUDENT HAS PRACTICED THE ASSIGNMENT FROM THE PREVIOUS CYCLE SO THAT WE CAN MOVE FORWARD IN THE LEARNING PROCESS.

Intro To Elementary STRINGS • Open to All Students • Orchestra offered from 3 rd Grade – 12 th Grade • Lessons once per cycle (Cycles 4 -29) - 30 minute lessons during school in a small group setting Paradise Elementary – Strings (Day 1) – 1 st Lesson (9/17/19) Spring Grove Elementary – Strings (Day 2) – 1 st Lesson (9/18/19) New Salem Elementary – Strings (Day 5) – 1 st Lesson (9/23/19) *** BEGINNING STRING STUDENTS WILL NEED TO HAVE AN INSTRUMENT BY THIS FIRST LESSON.

Obtaining An Instrument Learning to play a musical instrument is a challenging task. The

Recommendations: -- Rent from a music store specializing in instruments (Menchey’s) -- Obtain a protection plan -- Invest in a music stand (encourages good posture) -- Try before you Buy Cautions: -- Avoid online retailers (esp. those with no return policy) -- Avoid instruments with no mention of crafter/manufacturer -- Avoid instruments that are painted different colors -- Avoid storing instrument in fluctuating temperatures -- Avoid purchasing an instrument too small/too large

GROSS WILL SHOW YOU: • HOW TO TAKE CARE OF THE INSTRUMENT. • HOME MAINTENANCE VS MENCHEY MAINTENANCE. • DO’ S AND DON’TS OF THE INSTRUMENT. • THE FIRST LESSON EXAMPLE. • INFORMATION ABOUT THIS MEETING WILL BE SENT HOME BY THE FIRST LESSON AND WILL ALSO BE LOCATED ON MY TEACHER PAGE.
