Welcome /Merħba Maltese as a Foreign Language Level 1 & Level 2 Department of Maltese Sir Michelangelo Refalo Sixth Form
Academic Award in Maltese as a Foreign Language MQF 1 (6 ECTS) • Duration: 1 scholastic year (c. 30 weeks) • 3 lessons each week (55 minutes each) • Age: 15+
Aims This course is offered to individuals whose mother tongue is not Maltese. By the end of the course learners would be expected to: a) use and understand basic vocabulary related to thematic areas in relation to everyday life; b) develop the four basic language skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing) up to Level A 1 of the CEFR; c) understand the basics of Maltese grammar; and d) get a basic insight of the Maltese culture.
Assessment Formative Assessment (40%) • • • Classwork Homework Presentation/s Summative Assessment (60%) The learners will have to sit for an exam. This exam will have 4 components: • • Oral exam Listening Comprehension Reading Written Exam Pass mark 45% of the total mark.

Academic Award in Maltese as a Foreign Language MQF 2 (6 ECTS) • Duration: 1 scholastic year (c. 30 weeks) • 3 lessons each week (55 minutes each) • Age: 15+ • Prerequisite: MQF Level 1 certification in Maltese as a Foreign Language
Aims This course is offered to individuals whose mother tongue is not Maltese who would like to ascertain an elementary to preintermediate level in the Maltese language. By the end of the course learners would be expected to: a) use and understand elementary to pre-intermediate vocabulary related to thematic areas in relation to everyday life; b) develop the four basic language skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing) up to Level A 2 of the CEFR; c) consolidate and further the basics of Maltese grammar; and d) get a more detailed insight of the Maltese culture.
