Somerset’s Holiday Activities Programme Welcome to our Information Session Nancy Murdoch
Funding Overview Holiday Hunger – Marcus Rashford Department for Education Funding – £ 220 million Somerset County Council – allocated £ 1. 6 million • Somerset County Council • Grant panel decisions. • Somerset Activity and Sports Partnership • Coordinating of the distribution of the funds to providers in Somerset.
Background School holidays can be particular pressure points for some families because of increased costs (such as food and childcare) and reduced incomes. Therefore families on low incomes are: • less likely to access organised out-of-school activities; • more likely to experience ‘unhealthy holidays’ in terms of nutrition and physical health; • and more likely to experience social isolation.

Provision over the Summer 3000 opportunities across Somerset per day. Statutory, voluntary and private sectors. Grants programme. Link children and young people to services and further opportunities.
The Programme Summer Provision Dates th 24 July – th 4 September 2021
The Programme To support children and young people 5 -16 years. • to eat more healthily over the school holidays; • to be more active during the school holidays; • to take part in engaging and enriching activities which support the development of resilience, character and wellbeing along with their wider educational attainment; • to be safe and not to be socially isolated; • to have greater knowledge of health and nutrition; and • to be more engaged with school and other local services.
Summer delivery plan. Face to face delivery. Live Virtual Programme Online Offer Physical sessions – face to face (govt. restrictions permitted) Scheduled live sessions delivered virtually with the support of food boxes for families unable to access other local opportunities. Online offer to all school children – if you have an online offer – please send to nmurdoch@sasp. co. uk and we can include on the website. (Guide £ 18/Child/day inc food) Applications made via a grant application. This will be for the first week only. TBC No grant application for virtual suppliers. Face to Face delivery School-aged children eligible for benefits related Free School Meals 4 hours a day, 4 days a week, 4 weeks (is the entitlement of a benefits related FSM child). • • • Physical Activity - Government guidelines for children 1 hour a day Food - School food standards – ideally a hot meal Enrichment activities Monitoring and Evaluation information Policies and Procedures

Create Magic, Fun and Learning Opportunities with Food • • • BBQ’s Pizza ovens/pita bead pizza Blind tasting sessions. Sitting down to eat together. Weekend cooking, give them a bag of ingredients and let them create food our provide a recipe • Social media, local or national will support live cooking or easy cook a long content. • Budgeting introduce them to how to budget for meals and plan their ingredients. • Make and Take – really popular
Face to Face delivery • We are looking to offer 3000 places per day over the 6 week holiday. • You may only wish to offer 1 -2 weeks of provision, that is fine, although we will be looking for a spread across the 6 weeks to allow opportunity throughout. • We learnt that afternoon/evening sessions have been easier to fill particularly with the older age groups.
Application Process • We have amended the process so that hopefully it is more straight forward in terms of how many places you are apply for and where. • It will be a 2 step process, • Step 1 register your details as the recipient of the Grant and to sign up to the minimum operating standards. • Step 2 complete 1 form per venue for the HAF funding you are applying for. • You will be emailed a copy of your application but just incase I recommend screen shot! Centralised Booking System • Eligible families will be given access to book on to the centralised booking system. • Each provider will have admin access for their own activities so you will be able to see bookings. • We will ask schools to distribute the access to this booking system directly to the families in receipt of benefits related FSM. • All other bookings can be taken through your regular booking system. • There will be training for how to use the system.
Minimum Operating Standards o Public Liability Insurance Certificate – to cover the period of activity delivery (Essential) o Risk Assessments (To include COVID) for all relevant activities (Essential) o Policy and/or procedures in place to remain COVID Secure for participants and staff members (Essential) o Equality and Diversity Policy (Essential) o Health and Safety Policy (Essential) o Safeguarding/Child Protection Policy (Essential) o Staff Enhanced DBS Certificates (Essential) o Food Hygiene Level 2 Certificate (if appropriate) o Financial records (not appropriate where grant are awarded to Schools)
