District Demographics The District serves the communities of San Mateo and Foster City • 20 Schools: Transitional Kindergarten – 8 th Grade – 12 Transitional Kindergarten sites – 14 elementary schools (K-5) – 3 K-8 campuses – 3 middle schools (6 -8) • 12, 000 TK-8 students • 500 preschool students • Class size ratio is 24: 1 in grades TK/K-3, 30: 1 in grades 4 -8 3

Preparing for Registration Age Requirements - Eligibility • Students are eligible to enroll in Kindergarten if their 5 th birthday is on or before September 1, 2018 • Students are eligible to enroll in Transitional Kindergarten if their 5 th birthday falls on or between September 2 – December 2, 2018 • Students who turn 5 on December 3 or after, are not eligible to enroll this school year - they will enter in 2019 -2020 – Ed Code, no exceptions School Assignments • To find your school of assignment: www. smfcsd. net Registration & Enrollment School Assignments 13

Registration Documents REGISTRATION DOCUMENTS (Handbook page 5) • • • Child’s original birth certificate or passport Child's original, up-to-date immunization record Child's original Report of Health Examination for School Entry (encouraged at Kindergarten but not required until 1 st grade) Parent identification - driver license or other photo I. D. Proof of Residency Group One (select one): – Currental/lease agreement listing the parent/guardian name, student name(s), and name of property manager/owner and telephone number – Current property tax bill – Current homeowner’s or renter’s insurance policy – State or federal tax return with a W-2 attached (please remove social security number and income information from these documents before submitting) – Payroll/check stub with name and address Proof of Residency Group Two (select one): – Current utility bill (e. g. PG&E, telephone, water, garbage, or cable TV), must be dated within the past 60 days. New residents will have 30 days following registration to bring in a utility bill. 14

Document and Address Verification • The registration process begins with document and address verification at your child’s school of assignment in November • Be sure to check your school of assignment’s website for specific information before you present your registration documents to the school on the assigned day • Present originals of the registration documents as well as one set of copies to the school of assignment

Snapcodes When do you receive your child’s snapcode? • Parents/guardians will receive a unique

Snapcodes When do you receive your child’s snapcode? • Parents/guardians will receive a unique 15 -character code, called a snapcode, after their registration documents have been verified by school office staff What does the snapcode do? • Parents/guardians will use their snapcode to access and complete the Info. Snap online registration form. Please note: the snapcode is unique to each child, and it is the expectation that all families are responsible for recording and remembering their child’s snapcode. 16

Snap account. – Utilize the How to Register booklet for step-by-step directions on how to register online. Transfer Requests HOW DO I APPLY FOR A TRANSFER FOR MY CHILD? • Transfer request applications are completed through the Info. Snap online transfer form. • Parents/guardians new to the district can request a transfer after the online registration is submitted. • Parents/guardians may apply for up to 2 schools of choice. • All transfer requests received by the deadline of 4: 00 pm on December 21, 2017 will be entered into the school/program lottery. • Applications received after the deadline will automatically be placed on the transfer request list. 20

What is Transitional Kindergarten? • Same calendar and similar schedule as Kindergarten • Current

What is Transitional Kindergarten? • Same calendar and similar schedule as Kindergarten • Current TK classes are located at all schools EXCEPT: North Shoreview Montessori, College Park, Fiesta Gardens, Beresford, Bayside Academy • TK students are eligible to attend the Annex Program • Same registration and transfer process as Kindergarten • For the 2018 -2019 school year, if a child turns 5: • On or before September 1, 2018: Kindergarten • September 2 – December 2, 2018: TK • On or after December 3, 2018: Eligible for preschool only 26

Teachers & Curriculum • Transitional Kindergarten is taught by SMFCSD credentialed teachers • TK is intended to give young learners a head start and provide them with an opportunity to learn and grow • TK curriculum is a blend of the California Kindergarten standards and the CA Preschool Foundations for 5 year-olds • The TK classroom environment provides more opportunities for social-emotional and language development through interactive, hands-on activities 27
