Tips formatting n Follow your program formatting and the Graduate School Guidelines. n Use the Graduate School template for your type of paper! n Be consistent! - font style, headings, etc. n Left justify text. (Except Mathematics) n Double space (some exceptions). n Running heads/headers are not allowed.

Submission Sites n Theses and Dissertations must be submitted electronically through the Pro. Quest submission site. n Research Papers must be submitted electronically through Open. SIUC. n Upload as one PDF file. n Assistance with saving several Word or PDF files into one PDF file can be requested through etdsupport@siu. edu.

Format Feedback Process n n n Submit your paper via the appropriate site Receive an email with a list of corrections that you must make Revise and re-submit your paper as many times as necessary – usually 3 -5 submissions Do not create a new account to re-submit. Use the same login. The version that is approves is the final version.

Including Copyrighted Content in Your Paper n To use an already published work (text, photograph, drawing, data, etc. ) in your paper, you must obtain permission from author or publisher n Most publishers have forms to request permission on their websites. n Cite source in paper AND insert permission letter/email in Appendix

Public Domain & Fair Use Works in the public domain are free for the public to use without permission… n Works that never had or no longer have copyright protection n Works created by the United States government n Works published in the U. S. A. prior to 1923 If qualifies as Fair Use, permission not needed… n Include a small part/sample of the work n Adapt a work to fit your study Always cite the source under the object and in References!
