Keys to Successful Learning n n n n Treat this class as though it were a job. Your report card is your salary. Be prepared to give an honest day’s effort for your “salary. ” Come to class with a proper attitude. Come to class with an open mind. Be an active participant. Be a respectful listener. Set high goals and standards for yourself. Put forth your best effort and take pride in everything you accomplish.

Expectations n n n When the bell rings, be in your seat and ready to begin. Be self-sufficient. Have ALL required materials in your possession. Complete your homework on time. No eating, drinking, or chewing gum. No negative “S” words BE SAFE, RESPECTFUL AND RESPONSIBLE!!!

Parent’s Role Set clear academic and behavior expectations that are reinforced at home n Monitor your child’s progress by checking their planner/calendar and making sure it is filled in completely. n Check the teacher website calendar to verify information your child should have written down n Support the teacher positively n

One Pager Book Reports Strong reading skills = academic success! n There will be three per semester with one being and Oral Book Report n One Pagers will be completed and submitted through Google Classroom n If a student does not meet his/her goal, he/she will receive and “N” or “U” in Work Habits. n

L. A. Retake Policy n Scored a 69% or below on formative assessments (excluding district benchmarks and finals) n Final retake score may not exceed 70% n Retakes given during 7 th period or lunch (prearranged time with teacher)

Assignments • • • Work is to be completed in pencil on lined paper, unless otherwise stated. Some class work will need to be finished at home. If I can’t read it, I can’t grade it either. No name papers will receive 60%!!! For full credit, work must be submitted on time and completed according to specific directions and my standards. These standards are discussed in class, along with work samples. Missing work will be noted and scored at 50%. Do not ask for missing work after three days or more past due.

Tests and Quizzes n Tests and quizzes are to be completed in pencil n If a student is absent the day of a test or quiz, he/she will need to make it up upon return on an agreed upon day/time. n Save all returned quizzes and tests for future reference, review, and score verification in gradebook.

Extra Help n Intervention/Enrichment 7 th Period n We are committed to supporting your child! Our 7 th period Intervention / Enrichment block is an opportunity to provide your student with practice, support, and/or challenge. Please make every effort to avoid pulling your student out of school early. 7 th period is important!

How can I stay informed? Check Binder Reminder or calendar n Check online grades every week and discuss with your child their progress. Hold them accountable for missing work. n If your student struggles with filling out their planner, check my website and have your child recopy their assignments in their planner. n Check for assessment dates and what is being assessed. TALK to your child. n
