Safeguarding • The College was awarded an excellent grade for Safeguarding and support in January 2018 • It is important to us, that students of the College feel safe and know who they can talk to should they experience any difficulties • With this in mind, there are posters of the Safeguarding Team posted in every classroom, with our contact details clearly displayed • There also certain statutory duties we have to follow, which includes ensuring all staff and all students undertake training in Safeguarding and Prevent

Welfare Provision Student Support Officers - First point of contact if a student is in crisis The College has a team of Student Support Officers available to students who require additional support outside their studies. SSO’s are able to assist with a variety of issues that may present during the academic year including: • Students experiencing financial hardship • Anxious students • Poor attendance • Struggling with the course or motivation • Being Bullied • Anger Management Difficulties • Looked After Child (LAC) and Care Leavers (CL) and Young Carer (YC) • Transition in to higher level courses or to HE or employment Their role is to offer one to one support and guidance, to assist them in overcoming these difficulties and in many cases referring on to other services for additional support.

Counselling Service • Free support for student with emotional difficulties The College contracts its counselling services to ‘The exchange’ The service offers: • tried and tested professional counselling protocols, • accredited and insured practitioners, who have been Disclosure approved, bespoke IT systems with referral forms, feed-back sheets and information leaflets. The Exchange main remit is dedicated to: • providing one-to-one counselling, supporting staff and publicising the service. • Every young person who approaches the service has an initial assessment meeting with the counsellor, this meeting determines the support moving forward

Financial Support and Advice on Buses Educational Maintenance Allowance [EMA] An EMA grant can help with course costs including books, travel or equipment. For more information, visit the EMA website or contact the college at Tycoch on 01792 284000 or Gorseinon on 01792 890700. Financial Contingency Fund [FCF] The FCF is a hardship fund that is open to all full time students. The fund can help to support essential course related costs such as course equipment, childcare, CRB checks and transport. The FCF is means tested on household income. To apply you need to complete an application form. Funds are allocated on a first come, first served basis. You will need to provide proof of household income and if applicable, proof of your residential status. Welsh Government Learning Grant for FE (WGLG) An WGLG is a grant paid termly to students aged 19 years or over studying full time or part time courses. The WGLG can help students with course costs including books, travel or equipment. Apply for WGLG.
