Universities of Education (Uo. E) • Germany has 16 federal states and 16 different education systems • University reform in the 1970 s: all federal states except Baden-Württemberg integrate teacher education into large research universities • Today there are six Uo. Transfer and Innovation Project „Transfer Together“ Heidelberg University of Education and Rhein-Neckar Metropolregion Ltd together with other partners from the region (such as BASF SE, Heidelberg Startup Partners, Olympic Training Centre Rhine/Neckar, Philharmonic Orchestra Rheinland-Palatinate, SAP Germany etc. ) Project goals • Setting up sustainable regional networks and strategic partnerships in the field of education (mutual learning, developing smart educational areas, initiation of market-based foundations) • Establishment of a Transfer Center for Knowledge and Science • Strategic implementation of the transfer of educational innovations within specific extracurricular settings of the metropolregion • Opening of scientific processes (open science, social media) 20

EDUCATION – better together!“ Partner institutions • Heidelberg University with ~4, 000 teacher training students for the „Gymnasium“ (upper secondary education) • Heidelberg University of Education with ~4, 200 teacher training students in primary, lower secondary and special needs education Project • Both institutions contribute their strengths in order to create an integrative concept • The abandoning of the traditionally split of teacher training will • – open the way to a general improvement of teacher training. – increase the quality of all teaching-related study programs. – ensure higher mobility for the students.
