A Little About Me • This is my 9 th year at Oak Meadow and my first year teaching 4 th grade • I grew up in California • Family of teachers • Love running, playing with my dog, riding my bike, traveling • I graduated from Trinity University MAT

Curriculum • Math • Working With Words • Writing (STAAR) • Reading (library Tuesdays at 2: 00) • Science (lab Thursdays at 2: 00) • Technology (computer lab Fridays at 1: 00) • Art a la Carte/Outdoor Classroom
Technology • Students will go to the computer lab every week to reinforce their classroom curriculum while learning about technology skills • Playaways: students may use them during the listening station only and must bring their own headphones • We need headphones! If you can send headphones with your child to use for the year it would be greatly appreciated. These will be used with IPADS, playaways and in the lab
Art and Garden • Our students love their art and garden classes, and we love our Art a la Carte and Garden Angel Volunteers! • Please sign up if you are interested in volunteering for either of these. Thank you!!!!
Birthdays • If you choose to send a treat for your child’s birthday, please send napkins along with store bought goodies – we recommend: • Cupcakes • Cookie cakes • Donuts • Cookies • Please let me know in advance so I can be aware of allergies
Classroom Community • We are a Leader in Me school and our students follow the 7 Habits for Happy Kids (more information is on my Teacher Web) Conduct Grading Scale Grade Discipline Marks • Take Home folder, conduct marks E 0 -4 • Students are also expected to follow the Oak Meadow Rules S 5 -10 N 11 -14 U 15+ • Listen and follow directions • Respect myself, others, and property • Be prepared for all school activities • Keep hands, feet, and objects to myself • Walk quietly in the building
Classroom Community • Positive Incentives and Rewards: • Tickets • Treasure box (coupons, small items) • Marbles • Behavioral Consequences • Verbal warning • Second warning, agenda will be signed • Third warning: agenda signed, time away from the activity, and email home • Any further disruptive behavior means phone call home and/or time in the office
Grades Grading Scale • The grading policy states that the passing grade range is from 70 -100 A 90 – 100 • Assignments will be given a number grade B 80 – 89 C 75 – 79 D 70 – 74 F 69 or below • If a student fails daily work or a quiz (any score less than a 70), that student will have the opportunity to take the work home to be corrected and returned for a 70 • Student grades can be found on the Parent Portal
Homework • A weekly homework agenda will go home each Monday and is due on Friday morning the following week (2 weeks) • Homework will include writing, spelling practice, and some math (tic-tac-toe choice) • Some assignments will be on google classroom • Remember that reading at least 30 minutes every night and practicing basic math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) for 5 -10 minutes each night is part of our students’ homework expectations
STAAR - Writing STAAR testing will be March 28 th, 2017 • Math STAAR testing will be May 8 th, 2017 • Reading STAAR testing will be May 9 th, 2017
Snacks and Medication • Kids may bring nutritional snacks to eat at recess • No candy • Please send all medication directly to the nurse
Communication • Email is best! – ccuste@neisd. net • Teacher Web • Notes • Phone – call the front office (407 -5800) and ask them to put a message in my box
Conferences • Parent/Teacher conferences will be held during the early dismissal dates in October • Look for updates on remind or my webpage for digital sign -ups • Paper notices will also go home
Field Trips • Alamo • Symphony • Bradley middle school cabin • College (possibly UTSA, AM San Antonio, or Trinity? )
