MUMBAI : After an 18 –hour operation, Forest department officials on Sunday Finally captured the leopard that had enter The premises of NES International School In Mulund west. the male leopard , Estimated to be five-six years of age , was Captured around 4: 30 am on Sunday when It walked into trap set by rescue team.
The leopard entered the school Premises from the SGNP (Sanjay Gandhi National Park) In search of food on Friday night It was found by the school gardener In the basement of the school
The school gardener informed The police and forest department As it was Saturday , there were no Children in the school. no one was injured in this incident Said j. j jadhav senior police Station officer
Cases of leopards straying into Human settlement have increased In past few years , said krishna Tiwari , A wildlife expert who works closely with Forest department on the city forest Initiative.
Tiwari said , human-animals conflicts Were inevitable as the forest is in the Heart of the city. ˝Awareness among people On how to avoid leopard attacks is needed Such as keeping their areas clean as garbage Attacks. Livestock on which leopards feed. A boundary wall can also be constructed So that at least humans can be kept away From the leopard habitat, ”he said.
