Mission: Convergence • The simplification of the geometry and physics continued… • If there is a vortex in the field, the inviscid code does not converge • Using viscous and SA turbulence model to identify the problematic regions
• Starting from the original geometry, a more thoughtful simplification is done • The center piece is totally removed and the wall are smoothed out yet the diameters are kept constant • Some omitted facts of the geometry are kept like the exit rim • The back domain geometry is changed to accommodate flow physics • Boundary conditions of the back domain are chosen more precisely
• Mass flow rate as a measure of convergence is considered • The flow condition at the inlet and outlet are revised: – Temperature constant =300 K – Pressure Ration = 1. 5, 2 and 2. 5
• The solution is first started with SA model for the lowest pressure ratio • When the solution converges 4 order the same problem is solved using SST model the solution of the SA being the initial condition • The solution of PR=1. 5 is set as the initial condition for PR=2 • The solution of PR=2. 0 is set as the initial condition for PR=2. 5 • All the solutions are converged 4 orders
