Guidelines for Peer Review Overall Thoughts: What are the main strengths and weaknesses? What might be confusing to readers? What is the single most important thing the writer says? What will readers want to know more about? Introduction: Does the opening make readers want to continue? How else might the draft begin? Thesis and Purpose: Paraphrase thesis as a promise: In this paper, the writer will… Does the draft fulfill that promise? Why or why not? Does it carry out the writer’s purposes? Audience: How does the draft interest and appeal to its intended audience? Major Points: List the main points, and review them one by one. Do any points need to be explained more or less fully? Do any seem confusing or boring? Should any points be eliminated or

Further Guidelines… Organization: How has the author chosen to arrange his/her sources? (Chronologically, thematically, etc. ) Is this the best organizational scheme for their topic? Synthesis: Is the author adequately synthesizing sources? Or have they just been summarized? Sources: Did the author use reliable sources? Do they seem to be peer reviewed? Is the works cited properly formatted and organized?

Feedback Letter What feedback are you seeking from your peer reviewer? (Structure, topic, thesis, audience/purpose identifications, use of quotations, etc. ) Write a brief feedback letter to your peer reviewer asking him/her to review certain aspects of your literature review draft.

Peer Review Workshop Cover your Literature Review draft with your feedback letter and turn it in. Ms. Sprouse will redistribute the drafts. First read the feedback letter and then read the Literature Review draft. After your second read, begin to review per the discussed criteria. Remember to mark up the page with critique and then write a note at the end about the entire draft.
