When making any dish there is a method. Imagine making a Sunday Lunch; 2 courses of a roast dinner with vegetables and a dessert. There are many elements to this dish; 1. Roast meat 2. Vegetables – there could be 2 -3 to prepare 3. Dessert When preparing the meal you would not take each part in turn you would do a little of each until they were all ready at the same time. Someone who was familiar with cooking a Sunday Lunch would do this instinctively; slotting the different elements of the meal preparation between each other something like this: 10. 50 am 11. 00 11. 05 11. 35 11. 40 11. 50 12 noon 12. 05 11. 25 11. 50 1 pm crispy 1. 10 1. 15 1. 20 pre heat oven Chicken into the oven 108* TIME PLAN FOR SUNDAY LUNCH: Peal potatoes and carrots ROAST CHICKEN WITH VEGETABLES Boil water for potatoes AND APPLE CRUMBLE Par boil for 10 mins Drain potatoes, coat with oil Baste chicken add roast potatoes to oven Prepare apples for crumble Make crumble toping Prepare custard Take chicken out of oven to rest , check potatoes, leave for a further 10 mins if not and boil water for vegetables Vegetables on to cook Make gravy Present meal and put crumble in the oven to cook

YOUR TASK: The different parts of the meal have been ’dovetailed’ together – slotted

YOUR TASK: The different parts of the meal have been ’dovetailed’ together – slotted into each other so that the meal is all ready at the same time. This is what you need to do for your time plan; take your three recipes and dovetail them into each other so that in your plan the 3 dishes are ready together. (don’t panic at this point!! At this time you don’t have to cook them all together but you must write up a time plan for cooking them together KEY TERMS Time Plan - all the stages of making the dish with the time at which you will start each stage. Dovetail - Slot the different elements of the method(s) between each other. Health and Safety – show you know how to work hygienically and safely Quality control – how will you make sure the dishes turn out as you want – what will you do eg; size in cms of your carrot batons, texture of bread dough colour of cooked pastry.

SECTION C: Time Plan. The time plan has a 9 marks in the GCSE

SECTION C: Time Plan. The time plan has a 9 marks in the GCSE – ½ a grade. It’s not hard to do but takes time to get all the detail in and detail means marks. You have done in school before so look back at your folder to see how it was done. Look at the ‘Time Plan order’ document in the Worksheet Week 4 TIMEPLAN Folder it will help you to set out your Time Plan. You can write it up as a table or you can cut and stick sections of your recipe method – which ever you find easier. I have included a few examples for you in the TIME PLAN RESOURCES FOLDER on the school website
