Week 4 IT 9 Compound Words
Week 4 IT 9 Compound words • This teacher led activity aims to introduce children to the idea that in English, new words can be made by putting two words together. • Compound words are used, with each part of the word being illustrated with a picture, e. g. ‘sun’ and ‘hat’ together making a third meaning of ‘sunhat’ • The child’s task is to decide which compound word is formed from the 2 pictures they are shown and to write the compound word. • The next 2 slides are an answer sheet for each child to go along with the IT presentation, and should be printed off and distributed to the children before you start. • After each slide is shown the children first write their answer, prompted by a question mark, and then discuss and receive feedback. • As homework, the children draw a picture in the space available to show they have understood the compound words they have made.
