Week 3 Phonics Learning Challenges: Phonics New Learning: Final Consonant Blends The children have learnt all of the Level 2 and 3 sounds and are now ready for Level 4. This level is a consolidation of the previous levels with a focus on applying these sounds to read and write trickier words. This week the focus is on final consonant blends these are 2 sounds that go together at the end of a word. They are not a digraph (2 letters, 1 sound) An example of these is help, bent, sink and nest. I have included the Power. Point slides we would have used in class as this is what the children are familiar with. Throughout the slides you will see ‘Kits Teaching Tips’, these are useful tips to support you in explaining specific things to your children. The stories on the Power. Point slides are for the adult to read with the children helping if they can. Can they read the red words (tricky words) and identify the punctuation used and explain why it has been used? Each day has 2 follow up activities please do not feel you have to complete both each day, it is totally up to you how you use them. If you are unable to print an activity, feel free to complete the activity in your exercise books or adapt as needed. If you do not feel your child is ready for Level 4 please refer to the Physically Active Phonics activities from last week and continue to practise the Level 2 and 3 sounds. Remember, have fun!
