PHILOSOPHY IS… • Philosophy is the study of general and fundamental questions about existence, knowledge, values, reason, mind, and language. • It is about exploring ultimate questions such as: q Is there a God? q. Is there life after death? q. What is truth? q Why is there evil in the world Ultimate questions are questions that cannot be answered – philosophers try to answer them in different ways…

Using the article, philosophy clip you watched at the start of the lesson and what you’ve learned about the problem of evil create a mind-map about what the problem of evil is and potential philosophical responses to it… • I’ve provided some guidance on the next slide to help with the key points you need to address in your mind-map…
MIND-MAP St Augustine’s views…(Adam, Eve and the Devil…) Irenaeus’ view (we need evil – it serves a purpose…) How have some philosophers explained natural evil?
