Today you will calculate the profit you can make. Learning Intention : I am learning how to make a profit Success Criteria: • I can identify how much my materials are for my invention • I can identify how much my invention will sell for.

Making a Profit Today’s challenge is to identify how much money your invention is going to make and how much you are going to sell it for. You have to make a profit from your invention. You have a budget (what you can spend in total) of £ 20 and you are aiming to make a profit. Below is an example: Making a Harry Potter Wand Material Costing Wood (Stick) Glitter Pens Packaging Metal Engraving Free £ 1. 99 £ 5. 00 £ 2. 50 Total £ 16. 99 £ 7. 50 Will sell for £ 20. 00 each so I will make a £ 3. 01 profit per wand.

Making a Profit Remember to source the materials for your invention. Look online for the best deals that you can find. For example: Glitter: Amazon have it for £ 1. 99 to buy or The Works has it for £ 2. 50 to buy. Pens: Ebay are selling them for £ 5. 00, whereas Tesco have them at £ 7. 00. Packaging: Asda are selling the card for £ 2. 50 but The Co-op are selling it for £ 6. 00 Metal Engraving: Timpsons are selling the service for £ 7. 50 but Morrisons are doing it for £ 8. 00. Shop around for your materials and find the best deals to help your profit margins be higher. I chose to go with the cheaper deals so I could have a better profit. Plus the budget is £ 20 so if you go over that then you will not make a profit.

Art Challenge with John Lewis This information has been taken from the John Lewis website. We’re launching a competition to find a superhero teddy bear, and we need your help designing it. The winning teddy will be sold in John Lewis and Waitrose shops later this year, with 100% of the profits going to the NHS

Design Your Teddy Bear In honour of our incredible carers at the NHS, we need designs for superhero-themed bears – don’t feel like you have to stick to the traditional brown bear – we want to see all kinds of super teddies. Try and incorporate unique elements through colours, patterns, capes, masks – whatever feels exciting for you, but please avoid using any recognisable icons in your designs, such as the ‘NHS’ lettering or Superman logos.

How To Enter Share your superhero teddy bear design with us by 5 pm on 8 May 2020.
