About Us The company was established in 1979 when current Group Chairman Tony Parish and his business partner Alan Stephenson opened their first repair centre in Leeds, combining their first names to call it ‘Alton’ Cars. Having built a reputation for quality and attention to detail, Alton Cars gradually expanded its Leeds operation into two purpose-built units on Saxton Lane and by 2007, Alton Cars Leeds had again relocated to a new, ground-breaking site in the Cross Green area of Leeds. Further afield, the company had already begun to expand by acquiring other well established bodyshops. In 1999, Minister Coachworks joined the Alton Cars Group to become Alton Cars York. Throughout the next decade, further acquisitions saw Knaresborough Body Repairs, RC Jones Motor Bodies & Huddersfield Accident Repair Centre join under the banner of Alton Cars Harrogate, Alton Cars Barnsley & Alton Cars Huddersfield. In 2014 the group opened two new repairs centres, Alton Cars Hull & Alton Cars Doncaster, to give the group strategic coverage of the whole of the Yorkshire & Humberside regions. A change of approach at these sites saw Alton Cars create purpose-built repair centres, each equipped with cutting edge equipment & technology. In more recent times, Alton Cars has been back on the acquisition trail with the purchase of Beeson & Galloway, Blenheim Express Repairs, JD Bodyworks & Brookstead Panelcraft. Significant renovation works was carried out at each of the sites to bring them up to scratch and they’ve been rebranded Alton Cars Ashbourne, Alton Cars High Peak, Alton Cars Mansfield & Alton Cars Rotherham respectively as the group moves into the Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire territories. In 2018, continued growth has seen the group secure a premise in Sheffield. Intensive renovation works was carried out over a 2 month period to create a new flagship branch, Alton Cars Sheffield. With further expansion on the horizon, the future promises to be exciting for Alton Cars !

Accident Repairs & Restoration 2 Repair Process All our Alton Cars branches adopt the same repair processes with our ATA technicians specialising in certain areas: 1) Strip – The damaged area of the vehicle is fully stripped down. If we are an approved repairer for you insurance company and you have courtesy car cover then you will be entitled to a courtesy car. If we are not an approved repairer for your insurer or it is a private job then we can still provide a courtesy car subject to availability. Who insurers the courtesy vehicle? A. You do. In most cases your insurance will automatically transfer onto our courtesy vehicle. What do I need to provide prior to being given a courtesy vehicle? A. Please ensure you bring driving license photo card ID. This applies to any other named drivers on the policy that intend driving the courtesy vehicle. Booking & Repair Process Queries FAQ’s 3 Text – Q. Will you collect my vehicle & deliver it back? A. Yes, we do offer a free of charge collection & delivery service (and deliver or collect a courtesy cars where applicable) for insurance customers, up to a 30 mile radius dependent on your policy entitlement. This service is subject to a first-come-first served policy whilst immobile vehicles also take priority. Q. Can my booking in date change? A. Yes, it is possible. This is usually due to limited courtesy car availability, limited collection or delivery facilities or parts being on back order. On the rare occasion that we do have to change a booking in date, we will advise you at the earliest opportunity and suggest alternative arrangements. Q. How long will it take to repair my vehicle? A. Repair durations vary as every job is different. In most cases, our engineers have to obtain authority from your insurer prior to carrying out repairs. If and once repairs are authorised, we can then order the parts required. Delays can be experienced in both these areas, should the vehicle need a physical inspection or if parts are on back order, and whilst we have little control over these factors, we will manage the situation as best we can. Once repairs have been authorised and we have parts onsite our Customer Service Advisors will then provide you with an Estimated Completion Date – this is the date we will aim to have repairs completed by. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee this & it’s not a delivery date. Q. Why can delays arise during the repairs process? A. A number of unforeseen problems can delay repairs. Typical examples include the discovery of further damage once your vehicle is stripped down, the requirement of extra parts, or a Road Test or Quality Check failure as vehicle then go back into the workshop to be rectified. If we do experience delays when repairing your vehicle our Customer Services Teams will endeavour to keep you informed. Q. Can Alton Cars repair damage that is unrelated to the accident? A. Yes, our engineers can provide you a free of charge quote. Q. What happens if my vehicle is deemed a write off? A. If the vehicle is deemed a write off your insurance company will contact you to offer a settlement figure. Depending on the severity of damage, you may also have the option to retain the vehicle and we might be able to put a contract repair quote together for you to have the vehicle fixed privately. If you decide not to retain the vehicle, then we recommend you pick up any personal belongings as quickly as possible.

Please ensure you respond within 24 hours to ensure you avoid any loan vehicle charges. Q. Is my vehicle be cleaned before its returned? A. Your vehicle is washed & vacuumed inside. We do offer a full valet service should you want to take things a step further. Q. Do I have to pay for the repairs? A. It depends on several factors. If it’s a private job then you will be liable for the full cost of repairs, which will have been agreed upfront. If it’s an insurance claim, then your insurer will cover all repair costs. However, an excess may apply and if you are VAT registered, VAT on the full repair cost is charged. Payment methods include cash, card (2% charge for credit card) or BACS payment, but we do not accept cheques. It’s our company policy not to release the vehicle until after payment has been received.
