Climate A place that doesn't get much rain over many years would have a dry climate. A place where it stays cold for most of the year would have a cold climate.

Climate means that a place is hot, cold, wet, or dry and when those things happen.

Climate For example, it is cold and snowy in winter in Chicago, but warm with little rain in the summer. This happens every year! We don’t have to guess what the weather will be like because we understand our climate.

Climate It is determined by many things: latitude, amount of sunlight and temperature, precipitation, and nearby water (like oceans).

This climate map shows the 3 major climate zones on Earth. Zones with the same name have similar locations, temperatures and amounts of precipitation.

Climate also affects plants and animals, and some plants and animals are only found in certain climates. Where would you find a polar bear? What about a palm tree? Where would you find a desert tortoise? Where would you find a pine tree?

Vocabulary Climate Zone - Earth has 3 main climate zones: tropical, temperate, and polar. These zones can be divided into smaller zones, each with its own climate.
