We read the story Three Billy Goats Gruff
We read the story ‘Three Billy Goat’s Gruff’ as a grade. After this in groups children came up with questions about the story.
Oral thinking cards- Children have to tell the other members of their group what the person on their card may be thinking.
As part of word knowledge we learnt about synonyms. We made lists of words and their synonyms. These children are playing a synonym game.
Dice game- Children answer the questions on the dice about a book they have read. These children are orally completing the task, encouraging the other to read the story.
Webber photo cards: These children are describing what the person in their picture is thinking. This is a great activity for developing imagination and using descriptive language.
Sea sounds game: In this game the children are studying blends and talking about words, reading and following instructions. Working in a team.
Chunks game: This is a word building game. It is a great activity to promote oral language skills based on words and rhymes.
These children are playing ‘The Main Ideas’ game and using a secret decoder to determine if their answers are correct. In turn, they listen to a child read a paragraph, then choose which is the main idea from a multiple choice selection.
Using onset and rime charts children make and explore words. Here they made the word ‘fill’, and to show what it means, this child filled the tub with his friend.
Simple plays have been put into booklets. Children are taking the part of one of the characters, reading the script and acting out the role.
Guess what I am? All pictures are from catalogues. They are common household items, such as microwaves, fridge, shed, dinner set. Children ask questions trying to work out which item has been selected.
The children are playing a clown barrier game together. Each child is to instruct their group/partner what type or colour of clothes to put on their clown. This is a great activity to enhance speaking descriptively.
This is a match the picture and word game. These students are finding the pictures as a group and matching them with the words on their boards.
