We live in Ukraine. It is our Motherland.

Ukraine is a large European country. The territory of Ukraine is more than 603, 000 sq km.

Ukraine borders on Russia, Belarus, Moldova, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. In the south Ukraine is washed by the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.

The population of Ukraine is more than 45 million people.

There are the Crimean Mountains and the Carpathians Mountains in Ukraine. The highest peak of the Carpathian Mountains is Hoverla with 2, 061 m in height.

There are 131 rivers in Ukraine. The longest of them are the Dnieper, the Donets, the Dniester, the Bug. You can find a lot of lakes in Ukraine too. The biggest lake is Yalpuh in Odesa Region and the lake of Svityaz is the deepest one in Volyn.

There are more than 400 towns and cities in Ukraine. The biggest of them are : Kharkiv, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk. The most important ports in Ukraine are : Odesa, Mykolayiv, Kherson.

The capital of our country is Kyiv, a beautiful city on the banks of the Dnipro River.

Ukraine is a sovereign state. The Declaration of Independence was proclaimed on August 24, 1991 by the Ukrainian Parliament.

The Ukrainian symbols are the national flag and the Golden Trident. The national flag has 2 wide stripes : blue and yellow. The yellow colour symbolizes the colour of the sun and the wheat, the blue colour means a clear sky.

Another symbol of Ukraine, which all Ukrainians know and love is a snowball tree. People sing beautiful songs with poetic words about snowball trees and plant them near their houses.
