We hope you enjoy choosing and completing some of these tasks to raise awareness and understanding of the conservation of our beautiful world on World Oceans Day 2020. Explore ‘The Deep Sea’ using this website. Scroll down into the depth of the ocean. Create your own layers of the sea poster (you could add sheets of paper to create different zones). Draw in pictures of the different marine and aquatic animals and creatures. Year Group Newspaper writing task 1 2 BACK Write a few lines about what lives in our ocean. Can you include any fun facts? 3 Write a poem about sea creatures. Can you include some facts? 4 Write a short story on the lifecycle of a shark/whale/octopus/dolphin/sting ray/starfish. 5 Put your feet in the shoes of a bird flying across the oceans - what do you see? Marine life and plastic? Can you use facts? 6 Describe what the ocean means to you and the way we are treating it. 7 Write a detailed paragraph on the change of the ocean due to plastic waste and pollution. How does this affect the marine life? 8 Describe the effects of pollution on the creatures on the ocean floor. Can you find a species that has gone/is going extinct because of the pollution?

Here's the Fischer Mk 2 Aquatic Exploration Pod, a friendly little submarine designed and built by graphic artist Daniel Weatheritt enjoys building beautiful and surprising objects from the most ordinary things, and his studio is a treasure-trove of mechanical oddments and found objects just waiting to be re-purposed. For this project, Daniel used readilyavailable household materials including a margarine tub and a plastic water bottle together with basic crafting materials like paint and glue, so that families in Lockdown would be able to make their own models and share some imaginary underwater fun. Look at the Power. Point on plastic in our oceans and watch the video, then carry out an activity. In the activity you will use a plastic bottle to make either a snack box or a bird feeder. You will consider the advantages and disadvantages of plastic as a material and evaluate your product. The bird-feeders are the more challenging of the two options. Send a photo of your finished product to Mr Kellas. BACK

Watch ‘The Whales Tale’. Use it as inspiration to draw a picture related to the story. Write some informative sentences about sea pollution and its effect on marine life. BACK

Watch the ‘Hooray for Fish!’ video on the WOD webpage. Draw some pictures of your own fish in the style of Lucy Cousins, the ‘Hooray for Fish’ book’s author and illustrator. Can you create a stop motion animation using coding online, plasticine and a camera? BACK

BACK Read the Sea Turtles Powerpoint on the WOD website and follow the instructions to make a Salt Dough Turtle.

Create junk modelled sea creatures from things out of your recycling box at home. BACK
