We consider May to be the month of Mary. Look at these images and reflect on how the people from all nations view the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Becoming the mother of Jesus was the greatest thing that could happen to Mary. She praises God for blessing her. Just as Mary praises God, the Church honors Mary. She is the Mother of God and the Mother of the Church, which means she is the mother of all of us. Mary shows us how to truly listen to God. She teaches us how to trust and believe. Mary is the best example of what it means to be a saint.
Praying the Rosary is one way to honor Mary. The Rosary is a string of beads and a crucifix. We hold the crucifix as we pray the Sign of the Cross and the Apostles Creed. We use the first five beads to pray one Lord’s Prayer, three Hail Mary’s and one Glory Be, and conclude with another Lord’s Prayer.
We then pray using the five sets of ten beads, called a decade, remember an event in the life of Jesus and Mary. We begin each decade with the Lord’s Prayer, then pray ten Hail Mary’s, and end with a Glory Be to the Father. When we pray the Rosary, we reflect on the lives of Jesus and Mary as the Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious, and Luminous Mysteries. A Mystery is an event in the life of Jesus, Mary, and the Church.
