Wholetime Stations Wholetime station staff work an average of 42 hours a week across 4 days, comprising of 2 -day shifts and 2 -night shifts followed by 4 days off. Days: 08: 00 – 18: 00 Nights: 18: 00 – 08: 00 They have 4 rotating shifts: Red, Blue, Green and White 6

Day Crewed Stations Shift Pattern - Westlea Trowbridge and Chippenham start at 6 pm (On call) the day before their 1 st day shift and finish at the end of their 3 rd day shift. 8

Pay & Allowances Competent Firefighter Salary - Basic Annual Shift - £ 31, 144 Day Crewed - £ 35, 146 + On Call Incidents Attended 13
Day Crewed Allowances Additional allowances for Day Crewed personnel: • • £ 31, 144 + Rent allowance of £ 203. 76 per month (£ 2, 445. 12 per annum) On Call Allowance of £ 129. 77 per month (£ 1, 557. 24 per annum) Day Crewed TOTAL £ 35, 146 per annum + Incidents Attended as below: For fire calls during On Call hours you will be paid £ 4. 10 as a disturbance fee and an hourly rate for the time you are attending the incident. Hourly Rate Competent: £ 14. 22 Compensatory Grant – This is linked to the rent allowance and is paid every April. This is equal to the income tax paid in the previous tax year on both the rent allowance and on any previous compensatory grant received. (£ 400 - £ 500 per year). Approx. £ 36, 000/Year Total 14
Technical Assessment The Technical Assessment will be held 3 rd, 4 th, & 5 th March at our Devizes Training Centre. Should you be invited to the Technical Assessment all the detail covered in this session will be confirmed in your invite information. • Start 08: 00 - Finish 17: 00 (Subject to alterations) • External candidates will be required to bring proof of their right to work in the UK and any education certificates to the assessment. These will be checked prior to commencement of the assessment day. • If you are invited to the Technical Assessment you will be allocated a date to attend and this cannot be changed. 15
Technical Assessment • There will be various workstations to assess levels of Firefighter competencies against core skills. Workstations will include a written paper, a presentation and several practical sessions. • • On Call – Will be assessed against DWFRS policies & procedures / Fire Service Manuals External – Will be assessed against National Operational Guidance (NOG) / Fire Service Manuals • All candidates will be informed of the subject for the presentation when invited to the technical assessments. If you intend to deliver a Power. Point or Word presentation this will need to be submitted a week in advanced to check compatibility with DWFRS ICT systems. DWFRS presentations MUST NOT be used. • All candidates' behaviour, conduct and attitude will be assessed as soon as you arrive at Devizes Training Centre in line with our RESPECT framework. 16
Technical Assessment • Existing DWFRS On Call applicants – if your performance has indicated that there is an element where you have been shown to be unsafe there will be a requirement to inform your Station Manager and further action will be taken to re-assess the relevant skills and support you in maintaining your competence. • All candidates – Will be required to bring Full PPE & Work uniform (Home station PPE & uniform for external candidates) • On the day: Lunch will be provided by DWFRS (Dietary requirements catered for) • Onsite shower facilities are provided 17
The Recruitment Process Stage 18 Assessment Process Date Stage 1 Application Form submitted online Deadline for applications: 3 rd February 2020 Stage 2 Candidates informed of outcome and successful candidates invited to next stage W/C 17 th February 2020 Stage 3 Technical Assessment (Devizes Training Centre) including (for external applicants) level 2 qualification certificate checks. Link to On-line English and Maths assessments will be sent after this stage if no qualification certificates have been provided by external transferees Stage 4 Candidates informed of outcome and successful candidates invited to next stage W/C 9 th March 2020 Stage 5 Interview and Presentation (and verification of On-line assessments if required) W/C 30 th March 2020 Stage 6 Final shortlisting and outcomes confirmed to candidates W/C 6 th April 2020 3 rd, 4 th, 5 th March 2020
The Recruitment Process • This is a competitive process and only the top performing candidates will be taken through to each stage • Requirement to commit to staying in role for a minimum period of 3 years • Pre-employment checks for external applicants: – Successfully passing the Medical, which includes meeting our hearing and Fitness Test (Chester Treadmill Walk Test) - required to demonstrate a standard of 42 VO² max – Eyesight Test – References – including one from your current Fire and Rescue Service Satisfactory – Evidence of competence, and maintenance of skills and courses, from current Fire and Rescue Service – Satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service Check - DBS Basic clearance will be undertaken – Right to Work in the UK • 19 Pre-employment checks for DWFRS On-Call applicants: – Reference from current Station Manager
