Seeing comes before words. The child looks and recognizes before it can speak. 우리를 둘러싼 세계 내에서 우리의 위치를 설 정해 주는 것은 시각이고, 우리는 우리가 본 그 세계를 말을 통해 설명한다. words 와 seeing 사이에는 항상 큰 격차가 존 재한다. 말은 시각을 완전히 설명할 수 없다. 우리가 사물을 바라보는 방식은 우리가 알고 있거나 믿고 있는 것에 영향을 받는다. “We only see what we look at.
