6. 0 WATER TREATMENT PROCESS 6. 1 Objectives of Water Treatment Plant The main objectives of treatment is to produce a supply of water that is chemically and bacteriologically safe for human consumption. The supply must be aesthetically acceptable, free from apparent turbidity objectionable taste and odour.

6. 2 Raw Water Quality for Conventional Treatment Through analysis of raw water quality must be conducted Certain of the substances found in raw water are difficult to remove while other way be expensive to do so. Not all water are the same although look the same. Every water has its own characteristic.

For conventional treatment the process include : Screening (ii) Grit Removal (iii) Aeration (iv) Coagulation (v) Flocculation (vi) Sedimentation (vii) Filtration (viii)Disinfection (ix) Conditioning / p. H correction (i)

• Water treatment plant utilize many treatment process to to produce water of desirble quality • The most common process in conventional treatment plants are screen , coagulation , flocculation sedimentation, filtration and disinfection.

• Other process that might be used in treatment processes are aeration , chemical preciptation, activated carbon adsorption, fouridation, membrane.

• Many factors should be considered in determination of the required process in a certain treatment plant such as characteristics and seasonal variation in the raw water quality.
