Water Scarcity & Conservation of Water ØImportance of water: • Water is a natural source of water. It is a habitat for many plants , animals and human beings. We can live without food for some days , but cannot live without water. Our earth ‘s ¾ of surface is covered with water of which 97% of water exists in ocean. It is salty and cannot be used for our daily needs. The other 3% of water is fresh and can be used for our daily needs.

Water Scarcity Ø : - As we know that the level of fresh is low. But now, the level of this water is decreasing and hence there is Water scarcity. ØFactors causing Water Scarcity: - 1: Enviromental Degradation: - Rain and Snow are the two major natural sources of water. But now-a-days, there is a drastic decrease in both rainfall and snowfall because of climate change caused by some activities. Deforestation is one of them. Trees are being cut and forests are being cleared for setting up factories and building houses. The another one is Ecological Imbalance caused due to vehicles. Dust and harmful gases from vehicles get into air and mixes with rainwater and make it acidic. This causes an Ecological Imbalance.

Factors causing Water Scarcity (contd……) 2: Population: - With the increase in Population in the world , the demand of water has also increased. More and more water is required , whereas lesser and lesser water is available. 3: Industrialization: - There is also an increase in the number of industries. Industries use a large amount of water. They get the most of required water from under ground. This reduces the level of underground water.

Water Conservation: Now we know that the level of fresh water is limited and it is decreasing. If we continue to waste and overuse the water carelessly , a day will come when there will be no water for drinking and crops will die due to lack of irrigation. So , we should save water. Wise utilization of water for saving it is called water conservation. WATER CONSERVATION
