Region HQ City Ecological Footprints • • The Ecological Footprint is a resource management tool that measures how much land water area a human population requires to produce the resources it consumes and to absorb its wastes under prevailing technology. In comparison, the average Ecological Footprint in the USA is 24 acres person. The Worldwide average is 4. 5. See: http: //www. earthday. net/Footprint/index. asp# to calculate your personal footprint. These values are based on gross generalizations about likely profiles for average citizens in each city. All variables are the same except climate, population size, average driving distance, and average public transmit miles/week, which again, were gross generalizations. Prepared by Mindy Trask. What is a CART? ? a. or b. It is a Conservation and Alternative Resource Team (If you answered A, maybe you're just hungry. ) • ODOT's CARTs are designed to educate employees about workrelated conservation efforts, such as recycling, energy saving and commuting options. • CARTs promote voluntary participation in those efforts to create a culture of resource conservation awareness. • Currently ODOT has two CARTs, one at DMV headquarters in Salem and one at the Transportation Building in Salem. • You can help start one in your building! • For more information: http: //intranet. odot. state. or. us/home/CART/TBldg.
