Let‘s go back in time
Paris, November 27, 1830
This convent is located in Rue du Bac 140 - Paris
It was here that something extraordinary happened.
Our Lady appeared to a humble religious and told her:
“All people who wear the Medal will receive great graces, bringing it to the neck. ” “The graces will be abundant for those who wear it with confidence. ”
The religious who received this message was Saint Catherine Labouré.
Her body lies incorrupt in the chapel of the Convent Rue Bac 140, Paris
But what was this medal, which contained a promise so strong done by the Virgin Mary?
The Miraculous Medal from Our Lady of Grace
She promised: “All people who use the Medal will receive great graces. ” The Virgin did not say “some” will receive graces and others not. Instead, she clearly states that everyone will receive them. And she also promises that “the graces will be abundant. ”

The forefront of the Miraculous Medal
The Blessed Virgin is standing over the globe. It means that, in addition to be our Mother of Heaven, She is also the Queen of the Earth and of the whole universe. She crushes under her foot a snake that represents the devil, who continuously tempts men in order to take them to hell.
Our Lady has a power incomparably bigger than the devil. She protects all children who pray to Her with confidence.
On her fingers She wears rings that are adorned with precious stones. Of the stones radiates light in all directions as a symbol of the graces which the Mother of God pours to all who request it. Asked by Saint Catherine why from some stones did not leave rays, She replied that She wished to give more graces but men do not ask Her for them.
1830 is the year of the apparitions of Our Lady, in which she has revealed to Catherine Labouré the Medal. It was late afternoon of the 27 th November.
Around the medal to the sentence reads: “O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to Thee” Our lady wanted to have this short prayer printed in the Medal, to be said frequently.
The reverse of the Miraculous Medal
On the verse of the Miraculous Medal the big “M” taking upon himself a cross, is the initial of the name of Mary. At the foot of the Cross is Mary suffering and encouraging us to complete in union with Her the sufferings of Jesus. Around the Medal are designed twelve stars. As Queen of Heaven and Earth Our Lady has a crown of twelve stars representing Her power over all the creation. Everything She asks God, She obtains.
Side by side, are the Heart of Jesus and the Heart of Mary. Two small fires indicate that they burn from love for us. On the left, the Heart of Jesus is surrounded by a crown of thorns and has a open bleeding wound. This represents our sins and evil deeds that cause suffering to the His Heart.
On the right side, the Heart of Mary is crossed by a sword that represents all the pain She felt for us during the Passion of Her Son. She offered these sufferings in union with those of Jesus for us to be saved and to go to Heaven.
On the death of St. Catherine Laboure in 1876, the circulation of the Meda in the world already exceeded ONE MILLION copies. Numerous conversions, healings and extraordinary protections, quickly gave it his reputation as “Miraculous Medal”.
