Warm-Up #8 (3/5/15 ) Read below and then write a response that either justifies or condemns these actions! Consider: Does the U. S. have the right to do this? Does the Peruvian government have the right to grant such actions? Last month the U. S. sent a military unit into a small region of the Andes Mts. in Peru. This particular region is inhabited by a secluded native tribe. With permission from the Peruvian government the native people were forcibly evacuated from the area because it had been found to be the site of huge deposits of uranium. The Nuclear Power Coalition in the U. S. had gained the right to search for uranium in this area after geological studies indicated the possibility of substantial deposits. The displaced native people will be hired to mine uranium if they are unable to find anywhere else to go; however, attempts will be made to relocate the natives before this will happen.
