For the protection of the colonies If there is not enough room in barracks, then hotels and private homes need to allow officers and soldiers to live in their home Also have to feed them, care for their laundry Why is it a cause for the American Revolution? Colonists didn’t understand why there needed to be a standing army in times of peace What is the colonial response? Cities/colonial legislatures refused to follow the act

Another tax-beginnings of “no taxation without representation” What is the colonial response? Leads to boycotts and Stamp Act Congress-colonial group that gets this act repealed

Tax on lead, glass, tea, and paper Writs of assistance-british officials can search a private or public place looking for smugglers and smuggled goods Declaratory Act—that the British government has the right to tax the colonies Why is it a cause for the American Revolution? Its another tax… But now british officials can evade personal property and security What is the colonial response? Colonial protests which increased the number of troops, which leads to the Boston Massacre (1770)
