Treaty of Ghent • The Treaty of Ghent was signed in Ghent, Belgium, on December 24 th, 1814. • The Treaty of Ghent made peace between America and England. • President Madison and British leaders signed the Treaty of Ghent.
Native Americans in the War of 1812 • John Norton, a half Cherokee and half Scot, was a well known Amerindian leader. He commanded Amerindian soldiers through the Battle of Queenston Heights and the capture of Fort George. • Chief Tecumseh of the Shawnee tribe led a rebellion along with his brother and other Native American tribes to mutiny the white settlers.
Why did Britain want New Orleans • The British wanted to close the port in New Orleans, so then the Americans would never get to trade goods in New Orleans. • Seventeen British sailors were killed and seventy seven were wounded, while six Americans were killed, thirty five were wounded and eighty six were captured.
Jackson’s preparation for battle • Jackson led 2, 131 men to battle in a brief three-pronged attack against Britain with him. • Jackson once declared, “By the Eternal they shall not sleep on our soil. ’’
Other People • Britain was led by Sir Alexander Cochrane, Sir Edward Pakenham, John Keane and John Lambert. • America was led by Andrew Jackson, William Carroll, John Coffee and Jean Lafitte.
What the Battle did to Jackson • Jackson became a very famous was hero and the seventh president of the United States of America. • Jackson later died on June 8 th, 1845 in Nashville, Tennessee. • In honor of Jackson, Louisiana made the Louisiana Historical Association.
