WALT identify balanced and unbalanced forces.
This video explains balanced and unbalanced forces. https: //www. bbc. co. uk/programmes/p 019 c 0 hh
Forces affect the movement or shape of an object. They can make an object start to move, move faster, stop moving or move more slowly. They could also cause a moving object to change direction or make an object change its shape. Even when an object is stationary (not moving), there are forces acting on it. What is the name of the force pulling the boy down?
There are other forces that can act on objects as well as gravity.

The force of the engine’s thrust is greater than the force of friction. The car can start to move forwards along the road because the forces are unbalanced.
The car is now moving at a constant speed along a straight road. Now, the forces of thrust and fiction are balanced. The car maintains its state of motion it is not speeding up, slowing down or changing direction.
Use the pictures on the next 2 slides to use in you independent work.
Copy the sentence starters and complete to explain what balanced and unbalanced forces are. Draw examples and label them. The answers to the written parts are on the next slide. WALT identify balanced and unbalanced forces. A balanced force happens when ______________________ It means that the object_________________________ Draw as many examples as you can that show a balanced force and label them with as much information as you can to show it is a balanced force. E. g arrows An unbalanced force happens when ____________________ It means that the object_________________________ Draw as many examples as you can that show a unbalanced force and label them with as much information as you can to show it is a unbalanced force. E. g arrows Diving – Draw a picture of the object and draw what would happen if one of the forces changed in strength. Write a sentence to explain what is happening and why.
WALT identify balanced and unbalanced forces. A balanced force happens when the forces are equal in size and opposite in direction. It means that the object does not change in motion. It either does not move or does not speed up or slow down. Draw some pictures and label them with as much information as you can to show it is balanced force. E. g. draw arrows An unbalanced force happens when the forces are not equal in strength, direction or both. It means that the object changes its shape, speed, or direction. The object will move. Draw some pictures and label them with as much information as you can to show it is balanced force. E. g. draw arrows
You could create your own game like this You are going to play a game to identify different types of force! Each person has an Identifying Forces Bingo Board with pictures of different actions on. The actions have arrows to show the forces acting on the object pictured but some names of forces are missing. Your teacher will choose a Force Card and say the name of a force. If you have this force missing on one of your pictures, you can write the name of the force next to the correct arrow. You may be able to choose from more than one picture when writing the missing force. When you have completed 3 pictures in a row, you should shout ‘Bingo!’
