Walking and Mapping in Santiago This report shows the results of this activity based on the participatory processes developed in Santiago de Compostela city with the followings objectives: • To know about and among us, as professional collective and, why not, as friends. • To make city from archaeological perspective. • To enjoy and understand Santiago de Compostela, part of its public space, from walking and other point of views far away classical touristic perspective. • To share and learn together tools about participatory actions and social perceptions studies which are very useful and necessaries for heritage studies and archaeology. A general valuation of participation is positive, everybody answered a lot of questions. At the same time, they rethought together the city walking and during the post-meeting.

Walking and Mapping in Santiago Unfortunately, the weather was no so well (rainy), but certainly ordinary in a city as Santiago (if something was repeated by participants in the data collected was the word/expression "wet"). Besides, the activity was proposed to make active through the NEARCHing Factory all time. Logistics reasons affected the methodology, results and proposals, even the coordination with the facilitators (they were no guides!!!) was complex too. Finally, local participants decided that it no was an activity for them…it was sad, but we understand that we could not transmit well the activity. Apologies for this misunderstanding, but it clear that it was more than a classical tour of the conference!

Walking and Mapping in Santiago Anyway, 31 persons decided to fill the form and at least, we estimated around 10/15 persons more participated in the mapping and walking in general. That is around 30% of NEARCHing Factory, without local participants, maybe 50% of attendants. In the annexes you can read and see the raw data and to contrast the standardization of information. Anyway, if you have doubts with the process of extraction of information and figures you could ask David Barreiro or Alicia Castillo. Only we would like to add: we enjoyed and learnt a lot with this walking. We are sure this kind of activity has to convert in usual and it could be repeated to improve results. In spite of all, to rethink our role as archaeologists in the city and express our feelings is very positive for our collective. This is a good step for a sustainable strategy in archaeological heritage management and social innovation in general.

COMMENTS ABOUT ACTIVITY AND FORM TOTAL: 17 answers, 11 respondents BEFORE WALKING (8 answers) Positive Critic Negative Others/Ironic I am very happy to be here! Gamer and Santiago have an amazing surrounding for a setting in roleplaying I wish all questionnaires were as simple as this The rain is warme here than at home in Sweden I don't like questionaire It would be good if this was digital I like participating actively! The examples provided conditioned a lot my answers, for example: "salty" and "stone" AFTER WALKING (9 answers) Positive I don't get the impression that anyone lives in Santiago. People visit, but where are the residents? Everytime I will fill this questionaire, it will be different I did feel that this city/this place was absent of a lot of sensory experience, like smells, touch, sound (just church bells) The World Heritage symbols were nowhere to be seen ! The experience sounds good It was really nice to talk and walk with my group, also, heritage does not have a date - it's everyone's and it's everywhere Actually I am a cat person! There a lot of points of interests !!! Raquel was a great no-guide !!!
