Life and Work • Born on Good Friday, i. e. 13 th April 1906 near Dublin. • He and James joyce had similar thoughts. • Beckett has never been a prolific writer untill the stage show of “Waiting for Godot”, which made him win Noble Prize. • Used less plots and less characters.

The Theatre of Absurd • The word was first used by Martin Esslin in his play”the Theatre of Absurd” • Best example of it is “The Myth of Sisyphus(1942) written by Albert Camus. • Absurdisn is a part of Existentialism • Absurd means meaningless. • The term doesn’t has proper defination.

Characteristics: • Two act play, first produced in 1952 in Paris • Performed in 18 languages • No action takes place • No change in setting except a leaf on the barren tree • No female character • Two tramps keeps on waiting for someone called Godot, but they themselves does’t know who godot is? • In the second Act Lucky turns deaf and Pozzo blind. • Two tramps tries to suicide but doen’t succeed.
