Definitions A cylinder has two identical flat ends that are circular and one curved

Definitions A cylinder has two identical flat ends that are circular and one curved side. Volume is the amount of space inside a shape, measured in cubic units

Definitions Diameter is the measure of a line segment from edge to edge through

Definitions Diameter is the measure of a line segment from edge to edge through the center. Radius is the measure from the center to a point on the circle. radius Height is the distance between the two bases. Pi or π = 3. 14 height

Finding the Volume Formula… Volume = (area of base) x (height) A = πr²

Finding the Volume Formula… Volume = (area of base) x (height) A = πr² Remember…the base is a circle!!! Soooo, V = πr²h

Example: A can of tomato soup is a cylinder with a diameter of 7

Example: A can of tomato soup is a cylinder with a diameter of 7 cm and a height of 10 cm. What’s the volume of the can?

Example: What if you only have the diameter? d = 8 cm h =

Example: What if you only have the diameter? d = 8 cm h = 11 cm

d = 10 cm V = 275 cm³ Find the height of the cylinder.

d = 10 cm V = 275 cm³ Find the height of the cylinder.

Volume of a Cone – Is “pointed” like a pyramid, but its base is

Volume of a Cone – Is “pointed” like a pyramid, but its base is a circle. V = ⅓Bh Area of the Base A= r 2 h r Height of the cone, not to be confused with the slant height (l)

Example 1: Area of Circle V = ⅓Bh = (⅓) r 2 h 6

Example 1: Area of Circle V = ⅓Bh = (⅓) r 2 h 6 in 11 in
