BBA – HOD Message Dr. Yoginder Singh Kataria
• I feel privileged to be the HOD of the largest group of BBA students and being associated with PIET, an institute of high repute. • From the moment a young person enters the College we want them to feel a sense of happiness and belonging, as this is essential to their future success. Our College is recognized for helping all our students learn and succeed. With 900 students, we can provide more personal support and greater access to opportunities in each student’s chosen fields of interest. Parents and visitors compliment us on the warm and orderly atmosphere and our strong sense of community. • We encourage all our students to develop high expectations about themselves, their work and their behaviour, which is an expression of our values of Personal best, Integrity, Respect and Responsibility.
• Our approach involves working with parents to meet the individual needs of every student, and supporting them to fulfil their academic and co-curricular goals and dreams. We aim for all pupils to be happy and to be challenged in a supportive and safe environment by developing well rounded individuals who demonstrate resilience, determination and strength of character. • We equip them with skills required to access increased opportunities thereby enhancing their life chances. ‘High expectations’ is the key word in everything that we do. This helps in developing an inspirational College community that engages with all parents and careers.
• Our popularity has been ever growing and we always welcome visitors to make an appointment to visit the College and see what we have to offer, talk to our staff and students and see us in action. • I look forward to welcoming you to ensure the best standard of education for your child. Our academic standards continue to improve year on year by providing pupils with the necessary skills to flourish in an ever-changing world. Yoginder S Kataria HOD, BBA
Editorial Team’s View Mr. Jagmohan Ms. Pooja Gupta Dr. Sangeeta
• A college magazine is nothing but the enduring thoughts taking shape of words and occupying the pages to present a truly exciting and interesting experience to its readers. It is snapshot of departmental activities, academic as well as cultural. Since communication is the key to success in every organisation, this magazine is also a step towards it. • This is an authentic source of increased awareness and improved interaction which goes a step further to integrate the department as a whole.
• Usually we fail to appreciate the good deeds of many people and activities that happen around us as we are engaged in irrelevant talks and assumptions. It could all change if we just pause to think of what is our contribution to the society from which we have been gifted with this blessed life. • The progress of the society mainly depends on many people who are working behind the scenes, overtime round the clock planning things to the smallest. This news letter will be a medium to provide proper acknowledgement and respect all of these efforts and its results.
• This is only a small step towards a long journey. To achieve progress and to meet objectives we have to cross numerous milestones. This issue of newsletter should inspire all of us for a new beginning enlightened with hope, confidence and faith in each other in the road ahead. . . • This newsletter will bridge the gap between achievements and publicity. Activities published—that too not all—in the newsletter are sufficient to prove that PIET as a whole and BBA as a department is progressing at an exponential rate, credits and thanks for which go to the dedicated staff and their team work. Signing off with a quotation “If you want to go fast, walk alone, if you want to go far, walk together”. • Jag Mohan Malhotra • Chief Editor

• It took 2 years & 11 months time for Ambedkar to prepare the Constitution of World's Largest Democracy. He is also known Father of Indian Constitution. • Ambedkar has made research on various constitutions which were available at that time. But preparing a Constitution in just under 3 years is a great achievement. • Since 1948, Ambedkar suffered from Diabetes and was bed ridden from 1954. He died in his sleep on 6 th December 1956. • Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, popularly known as Babasaheb Ambedkar, was a jurist, social reformer and politician. He is also known as the Father of Indian Constitution. A well-known politician and an eminent jurist, his efforts to eradicate social evils like untouchablity and caste restrictions were remarkable. Throughout his life, he fought for the rights of the dalits and other socially backward classes. Ambedkar was appointed as India’s first Law Minister in the Cabinet of Jawaharlal Nehru. He was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor, in 1990.
Childhood & Early Life • Bhimrao Ambedkar was born to Bhimabai and Ramji on 14 April 1891 in Mhow Army Cantonment, Central Provinces (Madhya Pradesh). Ambedkar’s father was a Subedar in the Indian Army and after his retirement in 1894, the family moved to Satara, also in Central Provinces. Shortly after this, Bhimrao’s mother passed away. Four years later, his father remarried and the family shifted to Bombay. In 1906, 15 year old Bhimrao married Ramabai, a 9 year old girl. His father Ramji Sakpal died in Bombay, in 1912. • Throughout his childhood, Ambedkar faced the stigmas of caste discrimination. Hailing from the Hindu Mahar caste, his family was viewed as “untouchable” by the upper classes. The discrimination and humiliation haunted Ambedkar at the Army school. Fearing social outcry, the teachers would segregate the students of lower class from that of Brahmins and other upper classes. The untouchable students were often asked by the teacher to sit outside the class. After shifting to Satara, he was enrolled at a local school but the change of school did not change the fate of young Bhimrao. Discrimination followed wherever he went. After coming back from the US, Ambedkar was appointed as the Defence secretary to the King of Baroda but there also he had to face the humiliation for being an ‘Untouchable’.

Political Career • In 1936, Ambedkar founded the Independent Labor Party. In the 1937 elections to the Central Legislative Assembly, his party won 15 seats. Ambedkar oversaw the transformation of his political party into the All India Scheduled Castes Federation, although it performed poorly in the elections held in 1946 for the Constituent Assembly of India. • Ambedkar objected to the decision of the Congress and Mahatma Gandhi to call the untouchable community as Harijans. He would say that even the members of untouchable community are same as the other members of the society. Ambedkar was appointed on the Defence Advisory Committee and the Viceroy’s Executive Council as Minister for Labor. • His reputation as a scholar led to his appointment as free India’s first Law Minister and chairman of the committee responsible to draft a constitution for independent India. Framer of the Constitution of India • Dr. Ambedkar was appointed as the chairman of the constitution drafting committee on August 29, 1947. Ambedkar emphasized on the construction of a virtual bridge between all classes of the society. According to him, it would be difficult to maintain the unity of the country if the difference among the classes were not met. He put particular emphasis on religious, gender and caste equality. He was successful in receiving support of the Assembly to introduce reservation for members of the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes in education, government jobs and civil services. • You will be surprised after reading that Dr. Ambedkar had already suggested free economy, globalization, liberalization and privatization as early as in 1923, Indian government started to adopt this types of policies by 1991. In this repect Dr. Ambedkar was like an half-century ahead. He also stressed that the value of a rupee must be kept stable if the country wants gain more from free economic policy.
Now there are many other things like his stand on uniform civil code, women’s equality, better taxation policy and socialism are really worth of knowing. All of this before he even began his most important contribution to the nation that the Constitution itself. In short Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar was an true icon for whole India. His legacy, his works and his contribution will affect each and every Indian in positive manner everyday. • “I measure the progress of community by the degree of progress which women had achieved. Let every girl who marries stand by her husband, claim to be her husband’s friend and equal, and refuse to be his slave. I am sure if you follow this advice, you will bring honour and glory to yourselves. ” Dr. B. R. Ambedkar
