Reminders: • Everyone in attendance will be muted once the meeting starts. • If you want to comment, you will need to unmute yourself. I will try to manage the conversations to make sure everyone has the opportunity to speak out. • Feel free to submit thoughts via the chat and hopefully one of our OSAA staff members will be monitoring that.
Purpose: • To develop a set of recommendations that we can present to the OSAA Executive Board to help our membership schools with guidance and a comprehensive set of guidelines specific to volleyball. • What we develop and recommend will be impacted by the decisions of other entities - the situation continues to evolve and we should be prepared for changes to occur.
What we can anticipate: • The NFHS/SMAC and the OSAA/SMAC will continue to issue medical guidance. Medical recommendations carry BIG WEIGHT with decision makers. • Not every sport will have the same reopening timelines.
Things we know: • OSAA Executive Board shifted the all seasons. Volleyball is during Season 3 February 22 – May 2. • OHA came out with some new Guidance for K-12 School Sports, Limited Return to Play. • Masks must be worn by all indoor activities and outdoor activities where 6 feet of physical distancing cannot be maintained.
Season 1 Information (August 31 – December 27) Coaches must be certified to work with their student-athletes. Student-athletes must be eligible (if playing contests). 9 Days of required- No multiple practice sessions allowed. Certified officials must be used when playing member schools (can’t play nonmember schools as a school team). Schedules up to schools with participation limitations.
Volleyball- Where we are now: - In person = Indoor full practice and competition availability. - Distance learning= Training and conditioning remaining 6 feet apart and masked indoors or full participation outdoors and masked if cannot maintain 6 feet of distance.
