WHAT IS A VTT? VTTs are groups of professionals who travel abroad either to teach local professionals about a particular field or to learn more about their own

TRF’s 6 areas of focus (MBEPWD) 1. Maternal & Child health 2. Basic education & Literacy 3. Economic &Community development 4. Peace & conflict resolution 5. Disease prevention & treatment 6. Water and sanitation

WHO PAYS for VTT ? District Grant or Global Grant or Individual Rotary clubs

DISTRICT GRANTS Requirements : • Activities support TRF’ s mission to promote goodwill and peace, improve health, support education, and alleviate poverty • The district may determine the composition of the team to include Rotarians and non. Rotarians of any age • Length of visit and budget : Decided by district and sponsors

GLOBAL GRANT : VTT Activities must align with 1/> areas of focus, build the capacity of either the team members or the benefiting community, and have a sustainable & measurable impact. The VTT must be sponsored by RCs or districts from 2 countries. The grant may support the travel of more than 1 team.

Global grants VTT • Budget : Atleast 30, 000 USD • At least 2 members (either Rotarians or non- Rotarians) with at least two years each of professional experience in the designated areas of focus and a Rotarian leader who has expertise in the area of focus, international experience, and general Rotary knowledge. • In certain cases, TRF may permit to designate a non-Rotarian as team leader. • No age restriction

Finding an international partner TRF staff members do not assist districts in finding partners for VTTs. Rotarians are encouraged to identify needs and find partners through Rotary Ideas or by developing relationships at international Rotary meetings or project fairs or Projectlink

Individual Rotary clubs BOD decide on the composition, requirement and budget Could be intradistrict, interdistrict or international

Examples Global grant VTT: Team to Uganda for two weeks consisting of urologist, pathologist, Dentist , Gynaecologist from Dist 3140, Eye specialist from US, Nurse trainer and cytologist from US and a M&E expert from US

Global grant VTT District 3140 sent Eye surgeons to Congo Four VTTs to Uganda District 9211(PDGs Bal, Lata, Ajay and now Subhash’s year) This year Dist 3140 is participating in a GG VTT to Uganda and sending an OB-GYN Non-Rotarian Dr Haripandit Paranjpe

District grant VTT : Maternal mortality experts from UK during PDG Bal’s year visited District 3140 to train midwives and doctors in villages

Club sponsored VTT • RC of B. Chembur West : Sent a team of Ophthamologists to Ethiopia in 2015 • 2012 -13: RC of Deonar had sent a VTT of farmers to Israel to get trained in advanced farming techniques • 2009 -10 RC of Mumbai Ghatkopar sent a team of institutional educational heads to gain knowledge on combating drug abuse and rehabilitation among youth

Where to start ? • Say you have an adopted school for the disabled • Check with the principal the level of training presently available and whether they could spare teachers for training either by skilled trainers coming here or the teachers going to another country • Very often the school authorities can guide as to which is the best place for that particular training

Then what next? From there on the RC of that district could be contacted and then things could go forward

Advantages of District grant VTT Quicker in execution Any amount less than 30, 000 USD will suffice Will be done in the same year Can be within district or same country as well Monitoring is easier and within control

Disadvantages of District VTT Larger teams with greater budgets difficult International teams may be a challenge Strict protocols for Monitoring & Evaluation may not be in place Continuity may get lost with change of leadership

Advantages of GG VTT Larger teams possible International training feasible Multiple teams possible in different areas of focus Could be coupled with a large community service projects as well eg UGANDA Budget 30000 USD upwards

Disadvantages of GG VTT Finding an international partner Working out budget Rules and regulations of a foreign nation especially healthcare Global grant application to be made meticulously Approval may take time if TRF not satisfied with application
