What is a Vocal Synthesizer? A vocal synthesizer is either a program or a piece of hardware used to emulate human speech and voice.

100 years ago To put it simply, there was no such thing as a vocal synthesizer 100 years ago. The earliest record of anything like a voice synthesizer was Homer Dudley’s “voice demonstrator” (or the voder) which he showcased in 1939.

10 years ago Ten years ago was approximately when the program “vocaloid”(which is a type of music production software featuring the ability to use a synthetic voice) took off. (11 years to be precise) 2007 was the year when the voicebank “Hatsune Miku” was first released by Crypton Future Media for public use.
